ParticipantFirst off, let me say I really enjoy this site. Ryan, you do a great job. This is my first time posting, but I’m a long time lurker. It’s nice to find a group of people as obsessed with Elfman as I am.

Secondly I’d like to find out how close your information is to the source. I know that you posted the Elfman not returning to Spider-Man 3 information… I was just curious to find out where you got your info. I’ve heard from some reliable sources (that I cannot divulge, and would understand if you cannot do the same) have told me that he is indeed in talks to return. I noticed that his name is relisted on IMDb (not exactly the best place to get news from, I know) but I was wondering if you heard anything more.
Thirdly: Wasn’t Danny attached to score Wonder Woman? I’m hearing that he is no longer going to compose the movie’s score. Any news on this? Just curious.
Lastly: The music in the latest Chocolate Factory Trailer (I guess I should know this, but) is that Elfman’s work? I like the underwhelming epic theme that plays… very classy. Anyone know where I can get this music?
Thanks guys. Again, great site.

ParticipantDanny was never really attached to Wonder Woman, it was just listed on IMDb for some reason.
The music from the latest “Charlie” trailer is just trailer music, I’m not quite sure what the original source is. The “Willy Wonka” song in the first teaser is Danny’s.
As for Spider-Man 3, I’d like to hear how both your sources compare. I still have hope for his glorious return to the Spider-Man franchise!

KeymasterWhen I was in Los Angeles I had the opportunity to meet many composers. On two seperate occasions, with two seperate composers who do not know each other, I was told that Christopher Young was the man on SPIDER-MAN 3. I’m not going to tell you who these composers were, and frankly I don’t need to. I’m not in the business of spreading rumors and I certainly wouldn’t manufacture this story considering I run this site and the last thing I want to do is start a wave of fanboy criticism of Elfman’s two SPIDER-MAN scores and their relief that he is not scoring SPIDER-MAN 3.
That said, this was in February. Four months ago. A lot can change in that amount of time.

ParticipantWell, as I mentioned, I’m a huge fan of Elfman and was very upset to hear of this news originally. I appreciate both of your responses. My source (who is a member of the Sound FX Department for Spider-Man 2 and now Spider-Man 3) told my friend in California that Raimi was meeting with several composers for the job. He indeed did bring in Chris Young, and they worked on some samples, but nothing was confirmed.
Since then Raimi has lined up several interviews with people on the different production crews. One of them was with the Sound Effects Department who (as you know) work closely with the composers. He mentioned that Elfman was still listed as the lead composer, and that apparently they were still in talks: not so much about money, but more about scheduling.
According to my source, Raimi was extremely pressed for time, and the main reason this upcoming film is scheduled for release almost three years after Spider-Man 2 was because too many of the production crews were complaining there was not nearly enough time to complete the project properly and do it any sort of justice. (Again, Elfman being one of these people who complained that Raimi never sat in on the sessions).
I wish I could confirm directly with the source, or better yet, have him come on here and tell you more, but I doubt he would. My friend personally wanted John Williams to take over, and I told him he was crazy, and knew nothing about composing or scores. Spider-Man 1 and 2 were nothing short of brilliant. I explained how I’d feel cheated if we didn’t have a third installment because it’s as if the trilogy isn’t complete unless we’re treated to the conclusion of the Spider-Man/Peter Parker themes that we’ve seen grow over two films.
Here’s to hoping he’ll be back. Like you said, Ryan, alot can happen in four months; and even greater than that, alot can happen in a year and a half, so there’s still hope it looks like. Just wanted to mention this to keep hope alive.
