GuestI just got back from London.
While I was shopping in Covent Gardens, I had remembered that I should try and find some of Neil Innes’ Bonzo Dog Doo/Dah Band cds… Innes told me to buy his most popular, “Gorrila” So we went into this store, and what are the chances of finding ALL of the tracks to a band probably 40 years old?!? (We ended up buying Gorilla and the History of the Bonzos, for those Bonzo Dog fans out there.)
Thinking of which…I might as well see if they have any rare Elfman tracks…or soundtracks that you can’t find anywhere else. Sure enough, they had almost every soundtrack by Elfman. They were scattered around though, so I probably missed a few.
They also had
“DANNY ELFMAN
MUSIC FOR A DARKENED THEATRE”
Now, if you live in Orlando, or Florida even, you would know that you’d better get your hands on that or you’ll never be able to find it again. Not on the internet or in stores. Definitely not in stores.
They also had the Spiderman soundtrack…
Some of you bought it and said how wonderful it was.
There’s only two Elfman scores on the whole cd! Did I miss something?
Anyhoo, the store is called HMV. You could probably find any cd you’ve ever wanted there. We found cds [remastered records] dating back probably to the 50’s. So it’s reasonable to assume that they’ll have any Elfman cd.-Em

The soundtrack is songs inspired by the film with a couple little Elfman tidbits. The score album features all Elfman music. That’s what you should look for.

GuestHMV is a regular here in Canada, and depending on the store, you can find several good titles. The more suburban outlets stock total crap. Sadly, HMV is no better in the suburbs in Canada then say Sam Goody is in the U.S.A. suburbs.
Perhaps it’s a big thing to find older music in a store in the U.S.?
Also, MUSIC FOR A DARKENED THEATER is available online at Amazon.com and cheap. I remember when I tried to track my copy down before the internet, some ten years ago… To qoute Ash, “What a horrible nightmare”.

GuestI don’t think Sam Goody is TOO bad. I have been to a couple that don’t even have classical music sections (!?!?!??!?!?!?! . . . there are soundtrack sections though, it’s just that I think it’s insane not to have a classical section), but the one closest to me is semi-decent. I’ve even seen the soundtracks to Forbidden Zone and Shrunken Heads there.

GuestOh, score soundtrack eh? Well I’ve never seen it. The soundtrack just grasped my attention because it has the same cover design as what has been posted all over Elfman sites… and now I dare say I am confused. Oh well.
Yes, its a big thing to find older music in the US! At least here. If an album hasn’t been purchased within 50 days they through it out or whatever. It’s a total waste.-Em

GuestIt doesn’t even take the Internet; just find a really BIG store like Portland OR’s Tower Records, or the Barnes & Noble in Greenville, SC. HUNDREDS of film score CD’s like I’ve never seen before.

GuestPortland and Tower Records? We don’t have those down here. Come to think of it, I’ve never even heard of those anyway.
I guess they figure that Florida is the home of cheerleaders, football stars, and old fogies.

GuestThere used to be a perfect music store in Memphis, TN called Planet Music, but they were bought out by Trans World Entertainment and everything went downhill (they are now gone from Memphis, but I hear that some still exist).
Their classical section was P-E-R-F-E-C-T — the biggest selection I have ever seen. And it was in a seperate room (like some of the Tower Records I’ve seen, but bigger) that drawned all of the rock music from the main store.
You could listen to any CD in the store — AND YOU COULD SIT DOWN WHILE YOU LISTENED. Sadly those days are gone. They also had a membership club where you paid $35 a year and you get %20 off anything in the store on any day!!!

GuestHey, you guys at least live in large states! I live in a crap hole in which livestock outnumber people
We have Barnes and Arseholes’ chains taking over everywhere here – AARRRGGHHHH! It was a sad day when my friend’s coffee shop had to close because B & A had slowly, but surely, killed her business and wiped out her entire savings. But…I’ll spare you the sob story
Anywho, my friend and I grab our own “torches and pitchforks” – heh, more like African percussion and ancient acoustic guitars – and do *unauthorized* arrangements of our favorite film scores downtown (or what little downtown there is in NE)…we did a nifty little arrangement of “Jack’s Lament” complete with kids’ sing-along on Halloween this past year…it was fun!
For my film scores and used CDs, I go to a well-stocked, albeit very small, store here in town…for the really hard-to-find ones, I’m relegated to eBarf.

GuestLarge states? I live in Mississippi. Can’t get more “crap hole” than that (well maybe Alabama).

GuestAt least I’m not the only one. Y’know, I always thought it’d be a good idea to fun a store kind of like Suncoast. ‘Cept it’d be just Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, and Monty Python… O.O;
Oh and of course the occasional running-in’s of Absolutely Fabulous and The Full Monty.

GuestMy mistake. I guess I just think of Nebraska as a crap hole, and everything else as ABOVE this seventh level of Dante’s inferno
BurtElfDepp –
Hey, we could start an online store completely devoted to Danny, Tim, and Boingo…er, and lovely dark British comedy as well! Think we’d get any business, albeit the small fanbase here?

GuestI would think so. I have some friends over on teh BBS who would love some nice, spanky pics of Boingo and….uhm….Graham Chapman.
Then again they want David Bowie & Kevin Spacey “spanky” merch too…
Well everyone wins in this game, right? LOL.

GuestOhio has nothing but Cedar Point, so don’t feel too bad–I think Danny’s pretty much hard to find, no matter where you live. I mean, all the stuff I’ve ever found has just been by randomly hunting and hoping.
