GuestThanks.
So you mean sommersby is no longer for sale? damn! it’s gotten very good ratings and is supposed to be some of elfman’s best. does anyone own a copy?

GuestYeah – I got a copy lad.
I got mine from Ebay, and I suggest you try it too. A copy is usually on sale there – if not, there’ll be one in a matter of days.
Its worth it too – a nice score.
Best Wishes,
Toby.

GuestMP3s are not the same as owning the CD – sonically speaking (MP3 is a compression format, and you loose a lot of the high end and low end sound). I have seen it in used CD stores, so you might try some of those. As for Batman Returns, I’ve seen it in cutout bins, so you might be able to find one there.

GuestYeah, Robert. I’m really getting sick of comments like these. Why don’t you just rape a girl? Why don’t you just steal a car? It would save a lot of time, stress and money, don’t you think?

GuestI have no problem with downloading MP3s, but I only see them as poor substitutes for the CD – a listening sample of a greater musical experience if you will. It’s like saying that listening to a CD of a performance is like being there live. It’s not the same, just different ways to experience music, and I only see MP3s as an evaluation tool. But hey, if you can’t get it any other way, why not download the MP3s until you do find it.

Since we are speaking on the subject, I thought I might make a suggestion for Ryan; I’ve seen you post that you saw so-and-so score available somewhere online for X amount, and I’ve fond places where I’ve seen Elfman CDs at good prices. My question is: why don’t you just start a separate Titled board (like you did with the Spiderman petition) for just the purpose of giving fans here a forum to drop the info or trade / sale Elfman CDs. Just a thought.

GuestIt’s interesting how everyone’s moral attitudes have either “found loopholes” in the MP3 debate, or are flatly against it. Either way you look at it, it’s stealing; end of story. You’re taking somebody else’s material, for which you haven’t paid a dime, and appropriating it into your own collection. However, a legitimate debate (in my mind, at least) rages between the camp of “Well, it is out of print, anyway, so what’s the big hairy deal? The artist isn’t getting any money from it. Your cash is only going to a middleman/middlewoman” with the other side saying, “Damn, if you bend your moral character on THIS issue, what else in your moral ideology (sp?) is next to fall?”
Now, I personally don’t think that downloading MP3s (especially of OOP material) is in the same category of crime as, say, raping someone or murder…but still, either category (rape/murder vs. downloading MP3s) is a form of convenience and obtaining what you’d like to have without using a “traditionally acceptable” method. The sooner we accept copying MP3s as a form of “stealing” – be it widespread or not – the better. It’s always best to know exactly what it is you’re getting into, and knowing the consequences of your actions. Hell, if the artists/record companies took the initiative, they could slap anyone who had ever downloaded anything with the nice fat label of “thief” and probably a lawsuit as well.
I’ll admit it: I’ve stolen MP3s. They were of OOP material – take that however you choose (the lesser of a possible two evils or not). In my own scheme of things, I don’t see that to be quite as “taboo” as downloading currently released music. But hey, I’m just another idiot with a computer and something to say…
