GuestWell…. I read the begining of the article and thought, ‘well, if it’s tim burton, then it’s gonna be great.’ but then the scary part came up:
“Steinman, whose “Dance of the Vampires” opens this fall on Broadway, described his “Batman” score as a mixture of “Brecht, Weill, Rodgers & Hammerstein and rock ‘n’ roll.”
8[ um.. okay everything seems to be in order.. we’ve got the best director, and the lovely people who hirded him.. there’s someone missing here… oh, him. well, you see, we had a script and the music already before we even had the director so there’s no way we can.. hey, what are you doing? get that hairspray away for m me! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolexi: “I peeked behind the cyclops eye… I did! but he wasn’t there.” “it’s time to sound the alarms!”
p.s. ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo go cry now.

Guesti actually read aboot this on hollywood.com and just aboot fell outta my chair. then again….if they can take a victor hugo novel and turn it into a successful blockbuster musical…..then theres a chance this may work.
then when i read that jim steinman was doing the music…omigod i could not stop laughing. i mean this is the same guy that wrote all of meatloaf’s songs on “bat out of hell”
so well see if danny gives his blessings on this project

GuestBatman the Musical? . . . LOL! Man, this sounds stupid to me anyway. LOL!
September 1, 2002 at 8:06 pm #41727Anonymous
Guestwell, a lot of things seem stupid to me at first.. emperor’s new groove, mars attacks, alan cumming, the monsters in my tummy, etc. but after I either see them or hear more about them i grow to like them more and more. then some things sound cool and turn out to be dissapointing like Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes. but aside from the previous example, anything Tim Burton can’t be all bad, (Timmy just chose the wrong actor for leading man.. I mean, he looked more like an ape then some of the extras! Though he was pretty cool in ‘Rock Star..’ oh I’m babbling..) anyways in conclusion, this could be very cool, even though it sounds stupid.
lexi: I didn’t see country bears because it looks really stupid, but it may be cooler than it seems.. doubt.

GuestYeh, I heard that like a month ago on the Burton board.

GuestUm…”Hairspray” and “Dance of the Vampires” collaborators brought together in the oh-so-exciting musical “Batman?” I’m not one for live musicals. Let’s just put it this way, kiddies: I saw “Phantom of the Opera” live, and in my humble opinion, it completely ruined whatever positive effect the book had on me. But why, you ask, do I like “Nightmare before Christmas?” Other than the fact that it was originally produced as a film and not as a live theater production (but not for long),I have no clue. For some reason or another, I latched onto that movie when I was 12 and have never quite let go. Call it a childhood obsession, call it whatever you wish, but that is the only “musical” that I enjoy. I do enjoy theater productions, just not live musicals.

GuestTHE FULL MONTY is the best musical / theatre production I’ve ever seen!
Then again, that’s the only theatre / musical I’ve seen. (Not counting those millions of low-budgets gay cabaret bars.)-Em
Wubbena: So what’s the story with YOUR family, Anthony? Are they weird unlike mine?
Anthony: Well.. let me see. Oh yes. My mom’s dad shot my dad five times with a shotgun. That’s about it.September 2, 2002 at 3:56 am #41739Anonymous
GuestI love TNBC, but I would have to say my favorite musical is The Hunting Of The Snark based on a Lewis Carroll nonsense poem. It is by Mike Batt and the recording I have is rather obscure, and as far as I know it was only performed once or twice in England.
“In the midst of the word he was trying to say,
In the midst of his laughter and glee,
He had softly and suddenly vanished away –
For the Snark WAS a Boojum, you see.”

Guest“Nat who would like to be “snookering you tonight!”” \
HAHAHAAA! Dear god that was hilarious! I have no idea whom it was meant for, but I laughed just the same…it just sounds like something an old man would say to his aging wife…uh…not that I meant you were aging or anything…I just thought it was funny

Guest“Snooker” is a type of a pool game, but I thought it did sound kind of racey. The line “I’m gonna be snookering you tonight!” is from the musical The Hunting Of The Snark if you really need to know.
“It’s only a game, so
Put up a real good fight,
I’m gonna be snookering you,

GuestI figured that it was some line from a theater production, which I had no idea existed. Hm…intriguing. On a rather unrelated note, I’m awful at pool, but I was queen of foosball during my undergrad days…man, there’s a talent that I’ve let slide…along with many other things…

GuestI was also really great at poker and pitch (sp?)…and Risk, too!

GuestMy Sister is a big board and card game nut. When ever she comes into town we [my Mom, Sister, and I (and sometimes my Brother)] all get together and do nothing but play Trivial Pursuit, Mexican Dominoes, Phase 10, Rummy, and Gin, among countless other games. Its great fun, especially when the banter turns into nothing but jovial ribbing.
Back in 7th and 8th grade I was the champion of Paper Football at school. It got so intense that we actually had playoffs and a Super Bowl with a paper trophy twice a year.
But my sporting love is (and will always be) Baseball. I got my last hit off of the future #1 pick of the Mets Kirk Presley (who was a nephew of Elvis!). He later blew out his arm and returned to Tupelo.
Nat who had immortalized that moment in a poem, but don’t ask me to recite here because I don’t have it with me (and I can’t remember how good it is, since I haven’t read it in a couple of years).
P.S. I actually find that it helps to watch “good” pool before you play – weird huh!

Guestwell my friend told me about it…but why batman? I always thought nightmare would be the first one to be a staged play. Being a musical theatre person i was excited..but if danny’s not doing the music …then …were all screwed!!!! It won’t be the same!! He was a major part of the sucess of batman!!! I also have seen phantom and…well…the music was wonderful…but the play wasn’t as good.I’m very skeptic about the whole thing too.If it does happen then …i’ll be the first one in line to get a ticket.i just hope they know what the hell there doing….

GuestI’d much rather see “NMBC” as a musical as well…maybe just because that’s how it was originally designed…I don’t know.
Nat – the only actual sports I play are Ultimate Frisbee and Capture the Flag, and I haven’t done either of those in nearly a year…gotta get crackin’ on those, because I remembered just how fun they were! The Met’s #1 pick? Really! That’s cool, man.

GuestI’m expecting some camp songs with camp costumes…what the hell? Sounds fun.

GuestI wonder if the “Batusi” will be worked into a dace number?
Your right Michael, the camp value for it is a much more appealing direction.

GuestSome things were just not meant to be sung….I am repeatedly shuddering at this moment.

GuestYou’ve seen the ‘Batman Beyond’ version, right? I think they threw it in when word of Batman: The Musical first came out. It was hilariously horrible, with Batman in patent leather thigh highs, and Gordon looking very 19th c. But I think Robin was played by a girl (like Peter Pan), so that’s always good.
I feel that Batman should not sing and dance. Villains can, but not Batman. Hasn’t enough been done to disrespect such a great hero already? One of the cornerstones of the character (as far as I’m concerned) is his relative stoicism. And: just because some people working on the production have also been involved with successfull broadway shows, does not mean it’ll work out with Batman. Well, maybe if the lyrics are better than those of the TV show’s theme song…
Batman does not sing and dance! That’s just the end of it. Maybe a ballet, where he fights to music. That would satisfy me. Writing of ballets, anyone gotten more word on Scissorhands?

GuestHas anyone seen or heard the Opera “Paul Bunyan” by the late great British composer Benjamin Britten?
It’s more Britten’s attempt at a Simi-Broadway work than an out-and-out Opera, but he only has Paul Bunyan speaking with this booming voice off stage because all you ever see of Paul, when he is present, is his large boots. I thought that was a really cool Idea. I really like that Opera, and anyone who isn’t scared by the thought of OPERA should look for a copy of it (my copy is a recording off of PBS and I have it on CD).Nat – “A telegram, a telegram, a telegram from overseas!”
