GuestIs it possible? Bo Welch, who was behind some of the imagery for Edward Scissorhands, Men In Black and Batman Returns, is directing the live version. Wouldn’t Danny’s music fit seemlessly?

GuestGiven how god-awful “The Grinch” was, I’m glad that Elfman is not attached to this project. Bad idea! What’s next? An adaptation of “The Butter Battle Book” or “Hop on Pop?” Sheesh.

GuestThere was an adaptation of “The Butter Battle Book” – it was a cartoon.
As many also forget that “The Grinch” was a book before it was a cartoon.
It is logical that they become movies if they are compelling stories at their core. Movies constitute our highest form of creative entertainment, just like Opera before it. And did anyone know that there was an Opera based on “Green Eggs and Ham”?Nat who is a Theodore Giesle (hope I spelled that right) fan

GuestBy ‘adaptation’ I of course mean films. I watched the “Butter Battle” cartoon when I was in second grade and remember enjoying it. But there is a lot of difference between thirty minutes and ninety minutes.

GuestDefinitely, Randy. The grinch made for a beautiful 25 min. cartoon, but a 100 min. movie was such a barrage of color, lights, noise, swooping twisting camera effects and Carrey’s usual over-the-top antics that once was more than enough for me. I don’t ever plan to rent it.
The only more nauseating idea I can think of is taking “Cat in the Hat” and attempting to make it run for 90 min. Ugh! I LOVE the book, but COME ON…
See, with the Grinch, it ceased to be Seussical anyway, what with the whole first hour being devoted to Cindy Lou’s quest to find the Grinch’s heart and the Jubilee thing. What nonsense are they going to assemble and falsely call a plot for Cat in the Hat to make it run full-length???
Arrgh!!!

GuestMaybe the ‘plot’ will involve the turbulent on-and-off relationship between Thing 1 and Thing 2. Or perhaps the Cat running away from the mob due to his legendary gambling debts. Who knows?

GuestActually, I wouldn’t be suprised if the movie follows the ‘stranger changes a small town for the better’ story.
