GuestI was just on the CDNOW website, and it listed this soon-to-be-released recording, “20th Century Masters: Oingo Boingo, the Millennium Collection.” Is this a genuine release approved by the former members, or is it just another hawker trying to make a quick buck? Anybody have any info on it?

GuestAh… I was wandering exactly the same thing…
I just noticed this at Amazon.com, and I really don’t know what to think.I’ve been waiting for years for a boingo album containing some rare stuff… and I don’t think this is the one. It must be just another “greatest hits” album… but who knows, maybe it’ll contain some rare versions (like Ain’t this the life” on the “anthology” album)…
We’ll see… Anyway, new album means new cd cover… New cd cover means nw boingo artwork… and that is GREAT!

GuestThe cover is and old promo pic. I see no evidence of anything new or redeeming except for “all tracks digitally remastered.” But even that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
Somebody’s trying to make a buck and they aren’t going to make it off me.
I’d gladly pay for a nice collection of previously unreleased material, but this idea of rehashing the same collection of album material over and over is worthless.
Somebody poke Danny and ask him, “WTF?”

GuestYeah, I looked at the pic, and that is a REALLY old promo pic…in the late 80s, I”m guessing. (…”I used to know, but I forget…” ha!) My verdict: hawker trying to make a quick buck. Not worth it, unless there’s some really rare stuff on there…but for the bloodsucking price of (what I”m guessing will be ) around $20, including S & H, I’m not buying. Thanks for the input, kiddies…

GuestThats why i didn’t buy The Anthology…Not really worth it if it doesn’t have those lost recordings. And there’s ENOUGH lost ones to actually MAKE an album. We should petition Elfman for that…I’m SERIOUS.

GuestI’ll buy it if I find it in stores. Otherwise, I won’t bother (unless the digital remastering is INCREDIBLE, which I hope it will be).

Guest“20th Century Masters: Oingo Boingo, the Millennium Collection”
The Millennium collection is just a series by Columbia(?) records. It has been around for a while, because when I worked in a music store they would put out a couple each month. To be doing Oingo Boingo I guess they are going to put our Greatest Hit albums for every one! I don’t see the point if you already have the songs.

GuestI think Anthology was slightly worth it for two reasons. Maybe three. I didn’t count ahead of time so I’ll just be numbering as I go.
1. It was actually sanctioned by the band members. They were involved so I know the money was going to them, as it should.
2. There WAS some unreleased stuff. Granted, it was unreleased stuff that we had all acquired. And also it was only unreleased to a CD (as in available in other formats) but it was at least *something.*
3. There was a slightly oversized (too big to fit in a normal jewel case) booklet with a pretty good history of the band and several new pics included in it too.
4. It was a double disc. I hate these single disc things that always end up ignoring some vital track.
Now, there was one thing that was VERY annoying about the Anthology and sometimes made it not near worth the price of purchase. The packaging was horrible. Crap cardboard with glue that melted at whatever temperature the shipping trailers end up being in transit. I heard a lot of people complain about non-working discs due to glue.
It did cause a little fan nostalgia for me though. The ‘how do you get glue off a disc?’ conversations reminded me of an early time in my Boingo fandom when I had to ask, ‘how do you get banana goo out of a cassette?’

GuestI recognize the sleeve. There’s a whole series of these millennium collections. They’ve got a whole rack of them at my local ShopKo.
Doubtful it’ll have anything that hasn’t been released already, but I’m still going to buy it. Probably won’t be too much different than “Best o’ Boingo” except the tracks will be from the original recordings and not the “Boingo Alive” versions.
Why not pick it up? If it sells well, maybe that will be just cause for releasing more CDs hopefully with rare and unheard tracks, no?

Guesti recognize the sleeve too……these “millenium collections” also feature the who and duke ellington and a whole slew of other important artists. so i guees its cool to have boingo recognized in the same light as the who….but if anything itll be a chopped up version of the anthology. btw….my anthology disk 2 doesnt work because the glue came apart on the sleeve and glued onto the cd instead…grumble grumble
