I was just checking out the status of Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat movie, and I was thinking that, being a movie directed by Tim Burton regular production designer Bo Welch and having Emmanuel Lubezki (who worked with Burton in “Sleepy Hollow”) as cinematographer, it should have a Danny Elfman score! A Seuss fable like Cat in the Hat is perfect Elfman material and he should be the obvious choice. I’m expecting this to be a great movie, not only because the cat is played by Mike Myers, but also because the script is being done by a team of writers who worked on “Seinfeld”. It will surely make us forget of Carrey’s “Grinch” and that’s a good thing…

I’ve been hearing for a while that Randy Newman’s set to do this one.

How do you make a whole movie out of a 5-minute book? And starring Mike Myers?

I’m sorry, but I already fear that I will actually end up PREFERRING the Grinch, which isn’t saying much!

Sounds like a horrible idea. Didn’t they learn their lesson with the Grinch? HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE movie! . . . Oh by the way, Randy Newman sucks. ;)

    . ;)

With making movies the only bottom line (I’m sad to say) is the money it makes, and the lesson they learned with the Grinch was that:

    Hot Comedian + Dr. Seuss = $$$

As for Randy Newman, I’m a great admirer of his. And think that he is one of the greatest songwriters alive. Elfman and Randy’s songwriting is similar in the sense that they build their popular songs around irony and taking on a different persona (not just their own). I once heard Newman talk about this one time – about how you see that all the time in writing, but very few actually do it in song form.

Oh, well… I think Steve Bartek would be a great choice for this film, and it would give him a high profile movie to score.

I actually enjoyed Carrey in his more serious film roles (“The Truman Show” is still one of my favorite films). “The Majestic” left a bit to be desired from the man, but he was excellent in “The Man on the Moon,” so in my opinion, that proves he *can* act.

-E (who has been listening to the “Red Dragon” End Credits Suite and simply cannot get enough of it! It’s simply beautiful, and yes, I’ve cried while listening to it more than once).

Some parts of the Grinch weren’t that bad. I liked the parts with Jim Carrey alone in his lair a lot. He related very well to the Grinch character. It wasn’t Carrey’s fault at all, it was the writing and directing. He did a great job staying in character.

Don’t be so quick ( everyone ) to deal out judgement….

p.s.what’s with the big Burton hype? I think it would suck if he did Cat in the Hat.

goshhhh….cmon, Hollywood, for ONCE in your life, think of something original.

It’s gotta either be off something, a remake, redo, sequel, prequel, adaption. etc etc etc…. For me, I’d like to see Burton do something ORIGINAL.

Maybe you all haven’t heard that word in a long while. Or maybe Burton hasn’t written anything original at all. Sure, he had ideas, but………
Some people still think that he directed Nightmare Before Chirstmas.. HA!
If Big Fish screws up then that will make what? 4 bad films in a row?

Nightmare, Beetlejuice, Edward, — atleast he had something to do with these…even though he hacked a truckload of ideas………my rant is ……..wait…….over.

“4 bad films in a row?”

Are you saying that Sleepy Hollow was a bad film?

    Using your own words…
“Don’t be so quick ( everyone ) to deal out judgement….”

Nat – I rest my case (no rant here)

After all, isn’t Ron Howard and Ron Graizer’s company producing it (IMAGINE)?

They will just hire James Horner again. And I actually think that his Grinch score was one of his best scores over the last couple of years. So a Cat score by him might be just as good.

Nat – you hear that Michael :-)

yeah…Grinch really wasn’t that bad at all…I’d say if you you’re ever in a dejected mood, pop that in and you can relate to the character. It was kinda kiddy and that girl singing was entirely inappropriate, but it wasn’t so bad. At least Horner took off from some of his Casper work — which he doesn’t use very much.

Isn’t there supposed to be some kind of review for Red Dragon on here? Just wondering…haven’t heard it yet..i’m saving it for when i actually see the movie.

Hey Nuno! Ya cat in the hat is fun and all but I think if you wanted Burton’s darkness to make Dr. Suess’s style be the best that it can be I suggest another one of his stories-THE THORAX. The factories, the guy at the beginning of the book’s house, the trees, I think the theme would be much better for Burton to relate with. Danny Elfman would have no problem with a score to match the whimsical world of the great doctor. But I am just a loser. My ideas suck. Penguins track me down by sonar. See ya. Best regards,
