GuestDanny Elfman is doing the music for the movie Chicago: The Musical to be released this month. I can’t wait for this one because I’m such a fan of musicals and Elfman.

GuestNo word on whether or not his music will be on the CHICAGO soundtrack, which I believe has been pushed back to January.

GuestBest Buy’s website has a tracklist. But I’m unfamiliar with the show, so I don’t know if its only songs.

14. Love Is A Crime – AnastaciaLooks like there’ll be 2 suites on the soundtrack:
Overture/All That Jazz: Overture / All That Jazz
Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag: Nowadays / Hot Honey RagLet’s hope that has most — if not all — of Elfman’s score.

GuestI know the show fairly well and all that have been listed above are vocal selections from the stage show, except the Anastacia thing.
Maybe a little Elfman in the overture though, but the way it sounds “Overture/All That Jazz” could be an adaptation of the original Joe Kander and Fred Ebb music.
Those guys were amazing you might want to check out my favorite of their works, Cabaret. The 1998 version directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty) was spectacular. Alan Cumming was an amazing Emcee.

GuestThat’s so awesome danny’s doing music chicago! I’ve seen cabaret and chicago done and would have to say that there the best musical’s i’ve seen in the last 5 years (even though there both revivals) I saw the preview for chicago and it seemed a little bit more dark then the original musical, yeah that was dark as well, but this seems even more so…

GuestFavorite made-for-theater musical: Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera.” Beautiful visuals, stunning live-theater special effects, nice creepy music… Mmmmm!
Favorite made-for-movies musical: “Mary Poppins.”

GuestJekyll and Hyde by Frank Wildhorn. It’s gothic, and has very dark music. I love it!
-E (who is typically not a fan of musicals. In fact, the only ones she likes are NMBC and Jekyll & Hyde)

GuestI’m not a fan of musicals either, but a hugh fan of opera. I’ve given musical a shot on two different occasions and it didn’t do much for me, seeing two of the biggest shows “phantom of the opera” and “rent”. Rent bothered me because it was a la Boheme ripp off, and the music didn’t do much for me. I don’t know about this new la Boheme Baz Luhrman production, but one time someone asked me what the difference between opera and musicals was? and I just said, I don’t think we’ll be seeing nathan lane or matthew broderick singing in an opera any time soon.
Nightmare is obviously the best musical around…wish there was a strong enough lobby to get it produced someday. You know, there is a new Kunzel and the Cinncinati Pops disc called Scary music, and they do a new version of This is Halloween…very strange when you’re used to the original.
