    Hey guys, I didn’t know this…
Even though ELFMAN didn’t compose the music from CHICAGO (only 15 minutes of the score that’s available on the CD) he did orchestrate and arrange the music. It’s supposed to be in the liner notes of the album.

Hmmm, if that’s so then we’ve got the whole score on the album (!).

Elfman is credited on the poster with “ORIGINAL SCORE MUSIC BY”, which doesn’t in any way imply he arranged the music heard in the songs.

Has anyone seen the movie? It’s great. Elfman’s music is there but overwhelmed by all the songs (obviously)

As far as orchestrating the songs – I don’t think so. I didn’t look closely at the end credits, but I beleive that was someone else’s job. And besides – wouldn’t that have to be been done well before the movie was even shot? With all the songs in the film, and with what seems to be a short notice to write the underscore, I doubt that he arranged the songs for the film.

If you haven’t seen the mvoe yet – do so. It’s incredibly entertaining….

I’ve just seen the film. One, it’s amazing, so go see it.

Two, I think I can pick out which bits are Elfman’s… There was a bit of composition – all strings I think – when one of the characters is hanged. I’m almost certain that’s new.

There is a bit called Chicago After Midnight that was not in the play – that’s definitely Elfman.

And finally, I seem to remember some very jazzy underscoring towards the beginning of the film that was unrelated musically to the Kander & Ebb score which I think was Elfman. Can’t be too sure though.

    Go see the movie!

Hey Ryan, haven’t you gotten the Chicago score yet?

    If so, how is it?

Yeah, ditto. There’s lots of wonderful moments from Elfman’s roots, al la Mystic Knights.
