Blue Nuke
ParticipantHe will not return to the stage because of his ear condition and a great fear of furthering his hearing damage.Understandable I say but I still think if he did not have that condition I dont belive he would want to return because of his passion for film scoring. I wonder would he want too return? I just want to know if he would want too if its in him. Now I know Id sound “CHEEKY” for saying this but its not meant in a malicious way or a stab at Elfman at all !!! But he says he gained hearing damge from performing in a “rock band” and that he has some form of ear disease …..again understandble ! or is he also done mentally and spiritually with his band of yester year because they have these high frequency noise reducers that keep your ears safe and they are specifically made for rock performers and they cost between 150-170$ basically high tech ear plugs.
Coming from a kid who got left behind for Oingo Boingo’s last performance.

ParticipantWell, it’s true that those new generation earplugs, or even better – very good in-ear-monitoring (everyone is switching to that, it seems. I actually ordered my first custom ear-molds two week ago and can’t wait to get them. And mind you, I don’t have anything as loud as *brass* hammering itself into my eardrums, onstage) can solve the problem… but not from that end of the story, really. It’s for prevention, not treatment, really. Once you do get hearing damage or you are in a condition that makes you particularily vunerable to hearing damage, it’s utmost caution or nothing at all. There’s not much you can actually do once the damage is done.
And you don’t need as much as a rock band to ruin your ears (My dad is a professional classical violinist, and at sixty, his hearing levels in the left and right ear are dramatically different).
The first time I felt totally deafened by my guitarist :B in concert, I did a lot of research and reading on the subject, and it just makes me sooo paranoidally careful about sound levels. So, I think even if there weren’t so many other reasons for no-more-boingo, this reason is absolutely enough. Danny’s ears are sacred, people.
