The fact that it’s not a world premiere suggests it’s going to Venice, too.

Reviews are very solid. Not glowing but consistently full of praise.
Most reviews mention that there’s a lot of needle drops. Every other review or so mentions Elfman. The score has been described as ‘jaunty,’ ‘jazzy,’ ‘period’ and many mention that it helps keep the tension going. Sounds like it’s an eclectic score, as is often the case when it comes to Van Sant’s films.
I was watching an interview with Van Sant earlier and he said that he was listening to a lot of Jerry Goldsmith when working on this and it influenced the score.
Elfman’s made a post about this on his social media accounts. Some photos of him and Van Sant during recording. It looks like it was recorded remotely at Budapest. Looks like a small string orchestra.
Hopefully we get a release on Friday when the movie’s release goes wide.
I saw the film yesterday in cinema. It was good! It felt really lived-in. Good stuff all around.
Elfman’s score was either really quirky or really minimalist. There’s maybe 15-20 mins of score there. I noticed one very short cue that isn’t on the website. That string session recording that Elfman posted on his socials isn’t in the film or on the website.
I appreciate a score like this probably has an audience of like five people, but I’d really like a proper release. The Van Sant collaboration is important and this is so different to his other scores for the director. There’s a bit of Mission Impossible, a bit of Girl on the Train. I
