ParticipantI just saw the movie at the IMAX theater at the New England Aquarium in Boston, and despite wishing that the movie was longer, I was very happy with it. I’ll get out of the way the stuff about the movie: beautiful imagery, good narration, high school-quality writing, but no matter. Very good movie for 3D. And now for the music. It’s gorgeous. It felt a lot like a blend of “Big Fish,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” and other bits that all came together for a completely Elfman sound. The great thing was that it was all original, too. Although I referenced the other movies, it had its own identity among Elfman pieces. We got the trademark chorus, strings, horns, and bells and it was all amazing. Deborah Lurie’s piece was blatant when it played during the sea turtle bit, and I don’t know whether Danny added to it or was the inspiration for a part, but the rock and roll rhythm was accompanied by Elfman-style chorus and strings, and it was really nice. There was a very nice “finale” or sorts, and I tried to listen to the short end credits music but the stupid IMAX theater usher talked on the PA over the music, but I got some of it listened to. I plan on seeing the movie again sometime soon, and I really hope they put out a CD because the music was fantastic.
