ParticipantIncapacitated in bed due to the holiday flu, I was watching “Making the Amazing” on the Spider-Man 2 DVD for the second time. Two minutes into the “Direction” segment, I noticed a musical piece that I hadn’t noticed before. It sounds like Danny Elfman’s version of “Special Delivery,” because it is appropriate and it perfectly segues into the swinging music that we heard during that part of the movie, supposedly from John Debney. My theory is that John Debney scored the part from Peter barrelling down the street on his moped until Peter running into the alley, and when Spidey emerges, it’s Danny Elfman. For those who have the DVD, watch the entire documentary and there are literally minutes and minutes of cues that were not heard in the movie or on the soundtrack.

KeymasterHe wrote music for the sequence, but it may not have been used in it’s entirety.

ParticipantI agree with you Spider-Fan and wanted to ask you guys about it. We may be wrong of course (there’s nothing sure about this score) but I remember saying here that Debney’s variations on the Spidey theme (when he appears for the first time in the film) were so close to Danny’ style that it was almost disturbing. The rhythm given by the strings, the way the theme is developped, the notable addition of percussions, all those elements were reminding so much of Danny’s work for these films that I thought that Debney did very very well with that part of the pizza sequence.
Now, with the original cue played in the making-of, I’m pretty sure that when Spider-Man appears, it’s Elfman. A little relief I must say…Nevertheless, there’s still the train sequence and the wonderful variation he wrote for Spider-Man’s second fall, after the reception. Really frustrating…
