GuestI know this may be an odd question for this forum, but I was wondering if any of you could point me out or name any articles in which Danny Elfman may have received…well…criticisms. I need the other side to a paper I’m writing, and I’d appreciate it if someone could show me what I’m looking for.
Thanks a lot!

GuestTry the “Elfman vs. IGN” post earlier on this board. There’s as much criticism as praise for Elfman…seems like more praise as of late (hooray!). You might try http://www.boingofreak.org; I think that site has the text of Danny’s rebuttal to a really nasty editorial written by a college music prof…it appeared in either the LA Times or…I’m not sure which paper. (Really, though, that reply is exceptionally well-written. Elfman, in the times I’ve heard him interviewed/read interviews, seems extremely articulate and well-read. Can you tell that I’m biased?)

GuestThanks for the reply. Those are good sources. Do have any idea where I would find criticism of the Batman score? I know, I would disagree with it on a personal level, but I’ve got a paper to write

GuestAs far as I know, BATMAN received complete praise.
There are review sites on the internet, but few I’d consider real sources for intellectual “criticism”.
The best two sites in terms of reviews have to be:
MovieMusic U.K.: http://www.shef.ac.uk/~cm1jwb/mmuk.htm
and
MovieWave: http://www.moviewave.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

GuestIf you want the “open letter” E is talking about, there’s a direct link at: http://members.tripod.com/~pampyra/articles/opnlet.htm–it’s a pretty good read that any Elfman fan could appriciate, I imagine.
Also, you could always bull-@!#$ with the Batman score, and point out how Warner Brothers was kinda yeeshy about it at first–considering how they tended to promote Prince’s “inspired by” songs.
I can’t remember any one article about it, but I think it was pretty much common knowledge Warners favored Prince–at least to those of us who actually knew who Danny was, back then.
