GuestHas anyone else read the Summer 2002 edition of SOUNDTRACK?
If not, let this be a heads up. Danny Elfman is interviewed in this edition, which contains 8 pages of Elfman! 3 pages are focused on pictures of Elfman (2 in color and one of those being his BMI award photos). The interview took place after Spiderman was released, but before Men In Black 2, and it only includes a mention at the end of him doing Red Dragon now (in the article).
The interview is filled with a lot of interesting information about the director/composer relationship with it containing how the two films in questions were both different and the same. He explains the time constraints he was under between Spiderman and MIIB, and how work on MIIB actually started before Spiderman was finished. It’s really good stuff, and a cool read.
Pick it up if you see it. I know you can get it online at Screen Archives for $5 (at least that’s where I got it). I doubt it will be found on Newsstands because the publication is out of Belgium.
The rest of the issue has an article with frequent Elfman theme user, John Debney. It also has an interview with frequent Elfman sound-alike, John Ottman. For me it was a great issue because it also contained a career retrospective of my favorite Golden Age composer, Franz Waxman! For $5 this issue was definitely worth it.
Oh yea… and the cover has the Spiderman picture from the CD cover.
