I admired David Arnold’s work in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, but ever since Die Another Day I haven’t been too crazy about his scores. I’m not saying they are bad scores. I’m just saying it’s not the type of score I would actually pay to own. But, anyway, I saw Quantum of Solace today and noticed that his style for the score was kinda similar to what Elfman did with Wanted. So, I figured…wouldn’t it be nice if Elfman did a Bond movie? Although I would prefer it he combined a John Barry-esque style `60s score with what he did in Wanted. It could be an interesting score.

I thought the same thing when i heard Wanted. I think the score could really benefit Daniel Craig’s Bond movies b/c his Bond has a lot of energy and so does Elfman’s Wanted score and many of his other scores. This is the real reason why I thought he should score a Bond movie after listening to Wanted. The Little Things . Imagine Elfman writing and performing a song for a Bond movie. That would be a first and AMAZING.

I really liked what Arnold did on “Casino Royale,” and I thought “You Know My Name” was a perfect Bond song. I haven’t heard his new “Quantum of Solace” score but I think he’s brought an appropriate sound to the franchise. Elfman would have been better before the “reinvention” of James Bond, but today’s Bond demands the sound that Arnold has brought to it. Now, if he had written a song for QoS, it would certainly be way better than that dull Jack White/Alicia Keys song.

There was a Bond quiz in a local paper recently, and one of the questions was a mutliple choice on which rock group has not worked on a Bond film and guess which band they chose as the answer?

I do like the score for Casino Royale, but I have yet to warm up to the Quantum score. I didn’t think The new song was dull, but I didn’t think it fit with the Bond style. They changed so much in this film; still no gadgets, no catchphrases, and a lot more subtle interaction with the women, but I think they needed to keep the song more traditional. It makes for a smoother transition. But that has nothing to do with Elfman.

An Elfman Bond song? That has possibilites!

I actually think the Jack White/Alicia Keys song blows the lame, white-guy bar rock “You Know My Name” out of the water!

I liked what David Arnold did with Casino Royale as well. But some parts remind me of Die Another Day .Especially the music for the beach scene. Some cues on the CD shouldn’t have been on it. A lot that was tension music or whatever for example, the poker scenes. Which works better on film than on CD. Another thing that bothers me is that he said in an interview back in “05” or “06” on the CR score, “New Bond. New sound.” I really didn’t feel that. He just wrote a new theme for a new Bond and not something completely NEW.
I’m still for Elfman for scoring a Bond movie or writing and performing a Bond song.

BTW, that’s funny to have mention this b/c one of those video interviews Elfman did a week or two ago asked what genre he would like to tackle that he hasn’t already tackled.A Bond movie is a genre of it’s own. So don’t say he already tackle a spy movie, e.g. Mission Impossible.

Strangely, I like the QOS song better apart from the movie. In the main titles proper, it seems to go on and on. For me, the songs biggest problem, apart from the two vocals that sound almost indistinguishable (which is odd, for a duet), is that there’s no medley, which hurts the score.
