I work at a place called the City Museum (in St. Louis, MO) which, despite the blah name, is an impossibly fun, creative, wild, and all-around bizarre place; if it were a movie, it would certainly be scored by Elfman.

With that in mind, I had the idea to put together a mix CD of Elfman to throw into the shuffle of music that we play over the loudspeakers… you know, stuff that will make you want to just play and have fun. So, I’m trying to come up with a list of Elfman’s most upbeat, fun, wacky movie score tracks to put on the CD (nothing too dark or “scary”).

Below is what I have so far. And other suggestions? Thanks!

AMAZING STORIES: FAMILY DOG, “Suite” (MFADT 2, disc 2, tracks 19-20)
BIG TOP PEE WEE, 1: “Main Titles”
    DICK TRACY, 3: “Crime Spree”
FACE LIKE A FROG, “Suite” (MFADT 1, track 15)
    FLUBBER, 12: “Mambo del Flubber”
FORBIDDEN ZONE, 2: “Hercules Family Theme,” 12: “Cell 63”
HOT TO TROT, “Main Titles” (MFADT 1, track 10a)
MEN IN BLACK II, 1: “Worm Lounge #1”
    MIDNIGHT RUN, 2: “Main Titles”
PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, 2: “Breakfast Machine”
    PEE WEE’S PLAYHOUSE, “Suite” (MFADT 2, disc 2, tracks 24, 25, 27)
TO DIE FOR, 2: “Suzie’s Theme”

    Let’s see…
Beetlejuice Main Title (this must be the wackiest =) and The Fly
    Carnival from Hell from Darkman
Oogie Boogie’s Song and Kidnap the Sandy Claws from The Nightmare Before Christmas
Waltz to the Death from Batman
    Back to School
Mobocopter and Desert Run from Midnight Run

All kinds of suburbia stuff from Edward Scissorhands . . .

Yup, I’d go with Ballet de Suburbia from Edward, practically anything from Beetlejuice (esp. main titles), and (although some may disagree with me) Costume Montage from Spider-man. If it were me, I’d also stick in “Reptiles and Samurai” by Boingo :-) Sounds like a nifty place you work at…man, I use any excuse to take my niece to the Children’s Museum here in town, and spend all afternoon acting like a 5-year-old. I think it would be hip if the Children’s Museum would play the “Breakfast Machine” as people walk in the door, instead of the frightening “singing toddlers” music (oddly reminiscent of Raffi) to which we’re forced to listen upon entering…

-E (Elfman’s work for elevator music! Who’s with me?!)

I too, made a tape for my ex-girlfriends job at a Children’s Museum in St. Paul MN – people loved it. Looks like all of the bases are covered…..

I have to suggest adding Beetlejuice stuff to the list as well.

Aside from that, I want to say it’s nice to see there is another Elfman fan in St. Louis. *waves* Hi. I’m in North County (desperately hoping to move to St. Charles county soon)

Are you a Boingo fan too or just Elfman?

Novocaine’s main theme? I always thought of that as a very sad, melodramatic piece. Am I the only one?
