I love Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands. The emo-outsider theme or fun theme always hooks me. I especialy love Jack’s Lament and on Edward Scissorhands, I like the finale.

lexi: this is where it all begins.

    Best action tracks:
Zoom A + Zoom B from Mission: Impossible
Preparing For Battle from Planet Of The Apes
    Revenge from Spider-Man
Attack Of The Batwing from Batman

    Best non-action tracks:
Martian Madame + Martian Lounge from Mars Attacks!

    Best finale:
    Finale from Men In Black

I have to say some of my favorite recent Danny tracks are his “reconstructions” from various scores that he does for the end credits. Like the End credits and Main Title reconstructions for:
    Flubber
    Men In Black
    Planet Of The Apes
    Mars Attacks

And then there is almost the entire Spider-man CD, which is hard to pick apart anything from that score without wanting another track. The Revenge and Parade battle cues are my favorite, but the rest of the score is right behind it. :-)

Also I would be remised if I did not mention one of my favorite scores and cues; from Sleepy Hollow “The Story…” because of the slow build up with bassoon followed by the unleashed chaos that then backs down when the tale is over – a great scene in the movie with a lot of teeth (pun intended). :-)

Nat (who has a lot of teeth with calcium buildup that makes my teeth look bad but which is really good because it means my teeth are really strong)

In my humble opinion, the top highlights from Elfman scores that I own.

    Batman-Descent Into Mystery
The choir simply sounds incredibly cool.

    Edward Scissorhands-Grand Finale
One of Elfman’s more emotional tracks. Perfect ending to a great movie. Makes your heart genuinely ache for “poor edward”.

    Nightmare before Christmas-What’s This?
Perfect portrayal of what the emotions of someone’s first Christmas experience would be.

Batman Returns-The Cemetary, Final Confrontation, Finale (part 2)
Cemetary-love the musical portrayal of The Penguin
    Final Confrontation-gotta love the wardrums!!!
Finale-Nice blend of catwoman and batman themes. Return of the chimes (I think) that we discovered in Attack of the Batwing from the original.

    Black Beauty-Frolic
Beautiful piano work makes this an amazing and unique listening track.

    Mars Attacks-Main Titles
Nothing like an impending sense of doom!

    Sleepy Hollow-Tree of Death
One of the more gruesome parts of the movie that is accented with this piece that makes your hair stand on end.

    Planet of the Apes-Title Deconstruction
Again Elfman proves to be the master of emotional expression. This piece is a perfect representation of anger.

    Spiderman-Alone
Very reminiscant of the family man score in terms of pace and sound. 2nd most beautiful piece of music ever behind Copland’s Midday Thoughts.

I’m quite partial to the main titles from Edward Scissorhands, BeetleJuice, Batman Returns, and Nightbreed. Yeah–those have always been up there.

I mean, I like Danny’s new scores, but those always seem to stick with me. Reminds me of the first time I ever heard an Elfman score, I think.

Well – I gotta say, Barnone has great taste (see 2 posts up).

All of those are personal favourites of mine as well.

I have to add Batman returns tracks 15 and 16 together, and the Beetlejuice main titles. I like the dark craziness in these tracks – its like some clown pyschopath cutting loose.

    I’m not evil, honest….

My favorites are rather time related, because it all depends on what is out at the time, and if/when i get back to a ceratin one in the past. Take right now — I’ve pretty much glued Men In Black 2 to my brain…and needless to say without the slower tracks (7, 10, 11 and 15) the entire album would be kinda boring and would only serve a certain few basic emotions ( to me that would be “business as usual/same @!#$ different day” work-related attitude which this music seems to hit the nerve very well). Had this been 1990, well, you get the picture…Maybe this is why i don’t have a girlfriend…i’m too busy living in my own freaking head.
