GuestFavorite score threads are probably the most common thing on these kind of message boards, but what the hell; I’m bored.
What is your favorite score from the 90s? Give the year/composer/movie. Oh, if you have to put more than one, so be it.
Hmmmm… I’m guessing we will see some Elfman here…

Best score ever this side of Alexander Nevsky.June 20, 2002 at 3:04 am #40419Anonymous
GuestI’ll go with Sleepy Hollow because is more dark. Also I enjoy Batman Returns because that was the beginning for me and it is als dark.

GuestI’ve gotta pick two, because I can’t limit myself to one!
I’m quite partial to Edward Scissorhands (1990), by you-know-who. To put it shortly, I just think everything about it sounds amazing.
Also, I love The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), because it allowed Danny to further explore how integrated music can and could be in a film. It blended Tim’s concepts and Danny’s music perfectly–everything just fit together.
That, and Danny’s just got such a great voice, that it was snazzy to see how he could combine his two worlds–that of a singer/songwriter, and that of a composer.
How can you look at Jack and not smile?

GuestNightmare Before Christmas.
Even though as soon as I heard Jack’s Lament, I knew Boingo wouldn’t be around much longer.
I’ve found myself listening to a lot of Nightbreed these days.

Guestoh, that’s a real tough one… i cant just pick one… because i just loooooooove Ed scissorhands… man, i can hear the introduction all day long and never get tired… but then again, i have a very special place in my heart for batman returns, because it was the very first movie score that i noticed and loved (back in 1992, when i was 7 years old)… but. i also am very fond of Nightmare because i have a rare tendency to translate songs from movies to spanish, and it was the very fisrt time i actually got to record one (jack’s lament… it just rules, doesnt it?) and just dont get me started on dolores claiborne… so. the list has to go like this:
1.- favorite score of the 90’s: Batman returns
2.- should there be a second place: edward scissorhands
3.- a third place would be disputed by Dolores and Nightmare… aw hell!! why cant all they be my favorites?-Alonso (velcome to my home… gwa ha ha ha ha) Vences

GuestHey if you have to pick one, then Sleepy Hollow. It closed off the decade nicely.

GuestNighmare Before Christmas without a doubt. It’s the movie that got me into Danny Elfman (I was around 7 then). Jurassic Park got me into movie scores (man, I was OBSESSED with that movie and it’s music at the time [around 7]), but NBC REALLY got me into it!

Guesti think theres nothing better than a sad music score, so im going to have to choose edward scissorhands. but ive listened to it so many times that its lost the impact that it once had, so now i only listen to it every couple of months or so. anyhoo, somehow a copy of casper fell into my hands, and now i cant stop listening to it, the piano theme is soooo tragic, love it!. so i think edward is my number one pick, then casper right behind it.

GuestMan, that is so wierd. I was just thinking about the score for Casper yesterday, and hadn’t ever before!
Yeah, the scores do get kind of tired after hearing them over and over again in a short period of time (Sleepy Hollow and Edward for me). You start to hear all the little details that you don’t want to hear in them. But I just listened to Edward last night after not hearing it for about a month, an I almost cried! MAN, that music’s beutiful!
June 23, 2002 at 11:31 pm #40477Anonymous
GuestID say Casper, also , because it has a deep quality to it. Horner is pretty damn good at his arrangements, you gotta admit..even though he keeps playing the same style over and over again. The Perfect Storm was also pretty good, too. The biggest problem, is however, even though Elfman is a constant with me, it’s all so dependent on time and place: Every month or week it’s a new favorite…

Guestso erika you finally found a copy of black beauty?
June 24, 2002 at 5:34 pm #40485Anonymous
GuestCadeb –
Yes, a contact from this message board made me a copy (may the gods bless them!). Would you like a copy? (Note: I legitimately BUY all the Elfman scores I can. I like the original packaging, I guess. THis one was an exception, because it’s been OOP for close to 10 years, so I didn’t feel too badly asking for a copy).

Guesterika:
i dont think there is anything wrong on buying a cd-r copy of black beauty, as a matter of fact it is the only possibility that we have to buy the score (because it is, sadly, out of print)
i did the same thing wit “Dolores Claiborne CPE” and if i ever see a legitimate copy of the commercial release i will sure as hell buy it… so dont feel bad about vuying cd-r’s of rare music-Alonso (“a, is a. A,a,a, a, i, e, e,o, u, u, u”) Vences

GuestGotta say Edward Scissorhands. I have it. It’s sooo moving.
I’m glad to see there are other people who know about and love Danny Elfman’s compositions!
