GuestOk, Chicago just won best music or comedy. The producer was thanking so many people he told them to stop the music and give him more time to thank people. He thanked the guy that wrote the songs. But no mention of Danny was made. I know he didn’t do much, but he still was a part of the creation of that movie. I mean, Martin Scorsese (no idea how to spell his last name) thanked howard shore. Well, I guess I’m ranting. But I was kinda looking forward to hearing his name. “Thanks to Danny Elfman.”

GuestWell, honestly, Elfman’s contribution to CHICAGO was so small. I don’t think his music had anything to do with the film’s success. It didn’t make or break the movie and I don’t really think it deserves to be recognized. I mean, people who read this board might beg to differ, but we’re all pretty die-hard Elfman people and we’re biased. We listen hard for those 10 – 15 minutes because we know that he wrote them. In the end, however, was there anything there that really stood out as being Danny Elfman? Would a lay man walk out of the theater praising the few moments of incidental score in the movie? Of course not. The stars of the film were the songs, the actors, the staging, and the script. Elfman came in at the end and wrote a few minutes.

Guest… Well, I don’t know about you, but that’s the only reason I’d watch the movie. I’m not interested in it at all. But saying his contribution shouldn’t be recognized is absolutely satanic!!

GuestI agree with the Dantz man on this one. If something wins best score/soundtrack/whatever musical, you should thank anyone and everyone who worked so hard on it. Just throw it in there like “Thanks to Blah, Blough, Blee, and Danny Elfman for the wonderful music that made this movie rock!”, and there ya go!
Knight (OH YEAH!)

GuestWhen’s the last time you’ve seen the end credits in a movie Knight?

There would be lots of people to thank.

GuestYesturday for eXistenZ, but I am talking about the music for a film, to which the props should go to anyone who WROTE music for it first off, then all the other people, who wouldn’t have been able to do anything if the music hadn’t been composed in the first place.
Knight (I watch movies too much, and was it just me or did Shore’s score to Gangs of New York leave something to be desired? Maybe it was the bad sound quality in the theatre…)

GuestShore didn’t score it, he just allowed a concert work he had already written to be recorded and used for it. Just FYI, that’s all. I still would like to hear Elmer Bernstein’s score that was thrown out though.

GuestYour kidding?!?! It wasn’t even composed for that movie? No wonder it was so off!
Knight (I can’t believe it!)

GuestWhich brings me to my next point. Howard Shore didn’t even compose music for gangs of new york, but he was thanked. See where I’m gettin?

GuestTo be quite blunt, I’m sorry I spent $7 on “Gangs…” Shore’s piece was good enough to slowly reel me in, but U2? No, thanks! Never been a fan of those guys; never will be.
-E (I admire what Bono does for the AIDS/world peace organizations, but I’m not a fan of the guy’s music. I guess I just don’t get why people seemingly worship him. Then again, nobody really gets why we love Elfman, so I guess it’s all even, no?)
