ParticipantWhat… the… hell…
“In conjunction with the October 20th re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas, a 2-disc sountrack for the film will enter stores on October 24th. While the first disc of the set offers Danny Elfman’s music directly from Nightmare, the second disc will present covers of movie’s popular songs. Artists in the lineup include: Fall Out Boy (“What’s This?”), Panic! at the Disco (“This Is Halloween”), Marilyn Manson (“This Is Halloween”), Fiona Apple (“Sally’s Song”) and She Wants Revenge (“Oogie Boogie’s Song”). In addition, two demo versions of “Making Christmas” and “Oogie Boogie’s Song” have made the cut for the second disc.”

KeymasterFall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco? Hmn. Maybe some “real” emo-bands like Moneen or Taking Back Sunday could have been approached… Then I’d be happy.
Hopefully this’ll ring up some more royalties for Elfman though!

ParticipantWhen I read the article’s lead, I thought we were getting an expanded Nightmare release. What a cruel, cruel joke…

InactiveWow. This would be really, really funny if it wasn’t so disappointing.

ParticipantI just hope we get a new DVD with an isolated score, Elfman commentary and anamorphic widescreen transfer.

ParticipantNo fair!
I love Fiona Apple, but she really could refrain from stealing my fire.

ParticipantThis is indeed absolute balls. Fuck emo bands…they suck. Especially Fall Out Boy ::shudders::
Elfman, on the other hand, is the shit.

ParticipantWhy don’t they commission 50 Cent to cover Sinatra? No difference there. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was a very sweet tale in a dark setting. Just because the word “dark” is in there doesn’t mean that the door can be opened to goth-emo bands who claim the movie speaks of their souls and probably don’t even know who Danny Elfman is. This is worse than the DJ remixes for “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

ParticipantWell… I’m actually intrested in any re-interpretation of Elfman’s works… As long as it’s not rap
And no one seem to care about the two elfman original demos?!?!!!?? I’m pretty happy to finally see them released on cd. And by the way, the Fiona Apple version might be very VERY intresting!

ParticipantFiona Apple rules and I will pay to hear her singing “Sally’s Song”. And I wish this could be the beginning of an amazing work relationship with Elfman… Just imagine, Fiona’s voice and songs + Elfman songs and production. Now that would be amazing!

ParticipantA little offtopic, but concerning Fiona Apple and filmscore composers
: Well, she has just severed (somewhat) her longtime collaboration with Jon Brion, which is a pity. The Brion version of her last album (which leaked prior to it being re-recorded with Mike Elizondo), was in most cases far better than what she then decided to do with it without Brion. The original had this fabulous old-school merry-go-round quality Brion’s music has, the element of fairytale madness to it. The final version lost a lot of it, but that’s allegedly what she wanted. *shrug*
