Referring to the “Nightmare Before Christmas” re-decoration of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, according to Mouseplanet.com:

The most noticeable difference [between the ride last year and this year] is in the music. The “Grim Grinning Ghosts” theme has been replaced with new tracks by Danny Elfman, and a new batch of “Scarols.” Reaction to the change is mixed. Some fans love the new soundtrack, while others miss last year’s version.

Frankly, I am a total stickler, and I refuse to set foot in the Haunted Mansion until it is back to normal, even if the music is by Elfman. Sorry, but I love the Disneyland I grew up with. I don’t even want to see this new LegoLand area.

Not to totally dampen anyone else’s spirits. :-D Please, chat on.

Disney has gotten SO out of touch with reality. they used to mean quality! Now they mean sh*t most of the time!

legoland is in san diego not anaheim, and it has nothing to do with the disney corp. as for the Mansion, its nice to see them finally embracing one of the black sheep of the disney family, elfman’s music rocks and the mansion is beautiful with all of the candles a must see for any burton/elfman/NmBC fan

? The mansion always had candles. Floating ones in the halls.

Huh…someone told me Legoland was a new part of Disneyland Proper…I’ll have to double-check on that one.

And I’m not saying the alterations with Elfman’s music are not classy…but they aren’t the Haunted Mansion I know and love.

I’ll just comment on the Mansion since I live about five minutes away and literaly, yes, literally live at Disneyland. It’s just my opinion, but I think I have my points in it.

The ride! As for a general opinion? LAST YEAR WAS BETTER. I went on that thing 60 plus times last year (My friend and I counted, we tried to go on it 13 times every time we went but line lengths made our goal difficult to work with) and I remember it detail for detail. Honestly I think last year was better. This year, as I’ve been saying it, is “Sugar coated.” They made it a more child-appealing thing. Those scarols? I think that is so unbelievably tacky. I was standing in line and those things came on and I looked around and was like, “What the heck is this?” They have the lyrics on scrolls in the que line now, which isn’t so bad, but the voices on the songs? Over done. Sounds okay, for about a, hmm…. 9 year old? Sorry, the songs don’t appeal to my age. (15)

And the ride. The music, well yeah, is different. The elevator music has changed. The background music, at least. It was so much more powerful last year. Last year, when I went on it, every single time mind you! I got chills down my spine when I got on that elevator and heard the music. It’s hard to express it with text, but the children don’t have a melodic “la la LA la laaa….” its now a bland, “Laaaaaaa….” I don’t like it, and I’m an extreme prickler with music, so its probably so extremely minor that no one else in the entire world will notice it.

And yeah, the music has changed on the ride itself. They attempted to put the songs from the movie in it. But, it IS NOT the Danny Elfman songs we have grown to love and cherish. They changed them and made them their own. It sounds SO BAD to ears that have been trained to hear the proper stuff. I sat in my “Doom Buggy” Going, “Danny Elfman would be ashamed.” It would sound good to someone who wasn’t obsessed with that film for about three months last year, but as for me? I was put through much pain having to listen to those tacky versions.

Now naturally, this sounds extremely negative. Let me fix that. THE RIDE IS AMAZING!!! The way they redid the place? My god, it will take you away. I get chills just looking at it. I have been looking forward to it every since they took it away last year. I love it so much! It is really amazing. The ride is great. Those little critizisms are the tiniest of tiny in the whole effect. Otherwise? The ride RULES! I say go on it as often as possible. I never got sick of it, and Honestly I don’t plan on getting sick of it either.
So yes, all props to the ride! Its great! Those are just minor changes.

    Have fun!

P.S.> They also have these lights on the mansion now. Purple and green? Gives it a little color (Besides those GORGEOUS candles) but… looks somewhat sugar coated now. Not so real and disturbing any more. But it ROCKS! Yay! Go Disneyland!

Wahoo! New topic. I went tonight and got on it once and they changed it back to last year’s music in the ELEVATOR! Now I’m happy. The outside stuff is all the same, but its back! I’m happy! Yay! Go Danny Elfman! Go Disneyland! Yay!
