GuestHi All
After reading an interview (I forget which one) with Danny about Red Dragon, I have to say I have very high hopes for this score.
The main reason is that in the interview he seemed at pains to make the point that there was a lot of music, and it had to be more continuous – a tapestry of music. Now it seems to me that Danny’s best work (which I consider to be Sommersby, Edward, Spiderman, Nightmare, Batman, Batman Returns, Dick Tracy – I think I’m a loner on this one, and my personal favourite – Dolores Claiborne) comes about when he is given more ‘free reign’ to develop his ideas.
I’m no musician, but I am a choreographer. I know that when I make dance pieces, it is more fulfilling creatively to have the ability to create lengthier passages (even if you have to trim them later) than ‘made to order snippets’ (which translates into short film cues. While it’s true that Danny has written some genius shorter pieces, I believe his best works are the longer ones, because they are more complete. His work becomes the focus, not simply staring at the screen and creating short cues to punctuate the onscreen action.
So – I’ll go out on a limb – I think Red Dragon is going to be an absolute cracker.
Comments welcome
Kindest Regards,
Toby.

GuestToby – hate to break it to you, but if you read the interview with Elfman where he talks about RED DRAGON, it’s a fake.

GuestOhh!!!! Everything is fake around here.
I think we should ask everything to Mr. Elfman in person.
Maybe we need a chat with him. How can we get a chat ith Mr. ELfman…Ryan?July 25, 2002 at 8:40 am #41016Anonymous
GuestOh crap.
Lol – OK thanks for the tip Ryan. Here’s me rambling about a pile of crap. But the logic still stands – I think. I’ll keep hoping anyway.
