InactiveI want to perform a concert next year… Can I have permission for Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride?? If it is possible, how can I have permission and how can I receive orchestra sheets?

KeymasterNIGHTMARE is owned by Walt Disney Co. and CORPSE BRIDE is owned by Warner Bros. You will have to contact them to inquire about the rights. I don’t know how you’d do that and I don’t believe you’ll find those answers here.

ParticipantCan you write music? If so, you will have to make an arrangement because the only way you can get your hands on the original orchestrated scores is by going to the studio and asking to look at them. Now, keep in mind, that is the ONLY thing they will let you do (although you can bring a pencil and some paper and try to copy them). You can not make a photocopy, nor borrow them, nor take a picture, ect.
Now all of what I said is based on whether or not the studio still HAS the scores, and even if they do, whether or not they are still readable (they really don’t care all that much about most of that kind of stuff). So, save yourself a massive headache and listen to the recordings a few dozen times and try to write out the parts as best you can. I’m sorry but there just isn’t an easier way that I know of.

ParticipantHi KontG,
An 8-minute suite from Nightmare Before Christmas, arranged by Mark McKenzie, is available for rental from the Disney Concert Library; go to http://www.heelymusic.com/ (yes, that is the correct URL). This is rental-only.
A short orchestral suite from Corpse Bride is available for $60. Go to http://www.jwpepper.com/ and search for Corpse Bride or Elfman. However, be warned that this arrangement is for school orchestras and may be too simplified for your needs.
Good luck with your concert! — steve
