GuestI know I’m getting annoying, but I’m also very frustrated. Everywhere I look (biographies, reviews, etc), the author is always talking about all this criticism that danny Elfman receives. I see it all over the place. But I can’t seem to find a single print article that actually criticises him.
Some sources have said that he’s been criticised for being a rock musician without any formal training. BY WHO??
You can see how frustrating this is. I just know I’m going to fail this paper… crap.

GuestMatt, most of the time, the criticism is spoken, in conversation and off-the-record.

Guestthanks, that’s about the conclusion that I was coming to. it’s still annoying

anyway, I’ve therefore shifted the topic of my paper. Can anyone point out some really good points where Danny uses ideas from other composers. Not like Williams and stuff, but people he cites as influences. I’ve already found the Stravinsky in Beetlejuice (pretty cool). What about others?

GuestWell, there’s a LOT of Bernard Herrmann influence in Red Dragon, as well as Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. He uses a lot of African percussion in Planet Of the Apes, with an influence from his little trip to Africa (hopefully you’ve read about that).
