Guest::humble bow::
my name’s lexi. I am small and have only liked music of Danny Elfman since January. (unless, of couse, you count my mini-obsession with NMBC back in 1993.. I was samller back then.) I really like this site because it gives factual information without bragging and squeezes all of it’s opinions into a corner called a ‘disscussion forum.’ pardon the spelling.
for the past few days, I have been mostly reading the disscussions, but I helped an elfmaniac of some kind decide whether or not he wanted to purchase mfadt vol2. back in may I asked where the celebrity premeir of spider-man was.. and that’s all i have written.
I feel like I may be a few years too young to join this gathering of darkened people. I also grin a lot and bare my fangs. I want to make some nice friends in these shadows, and I thought a friendly message might help me meet them.
here’s a tiny bio:
-name: lexi
-first elfman album: best o’ boingo- not a great album, but it was a gateway drug.
-first score: after mfadt2.. spider-man. aren’t I a teeny bopper?
-favorite score: nightmare before christmas
-only DVDs: oingo boingo farewell, edward scissorhands, nmbc, modern vampires (a good buy, because all of richard’s commentary concentrates on Natasha Wagner’s booty.)hoping to defend my interests and ask annoying questions,

GuestHello Lexi,
I’m pretty quiet here, as well.
Been a fan since the mid ’80’s, when I was 12.
One of the very few Boingo fans who was absolutely thrilled when Elfman made the final switch to film composing, though still a little lost around halloween time.
(went to my first Boingo show when I was 12 and couldn’t really tell you how many after that.)
So’s anyway, hello.-beth

GuestWelcome to the board Lexi!
I hope you can find interesting conversation around here.
Lately I’ve been posting here because I found other Film Score sites lacking in content and meaningful conversation. The posters here make me laugh as well as think from time to time, and the great thing about this board is that most of us here realize that we are freaks so we don’t take much if anything anyone types very personally.
Also, Ryan is a great host that knows how to run a good site and a tight message board.

Guestthanks for the welcome beth and nat,
boingo is what lead me this far into the .. hobby. is the boy hadn’t sounded like jack in ‘no one lives forever,’ I may have just given up. right now, I’m looking to buy Dark at the end of the Tunnel, as well as the score for MIIB. (personally, I think it was more focused than Spider-man, which to me seemed to dark for the character. The violins were a given, but I never would have thought of the horn solo… I guess that’s why we love him!)
I know aboout you, nat (like the bug, without the g) usually always on the board defending it from insects like ‘the lord of nightmares’ or giving the insecure a pep talk.
moving in the wrong direction brings bad luck/ living without protection really sux,

GuestHi Lexi –
Thought I’d give a welcome as well. Don’t worry too much about being a bit “new” to Elfman’s film scores. I’m pretty much in the same boat as you are: I’ve only been into Elfman and film scores for about 3 years now, and I”ve got a lot left to learn! But it’s great; it really is. This board and its members/creator are wonderful; always willing to help the “less educated” like myself and discuss in general.
“God bless the film score nerds who keep the torches burning…”

GuestHey–I’ve never really introduced myself, but just kind of appeared, like everyone else.
I’ve loved Danny’s work for twelve years now and this is probably my favorite site, just because I don’t know anyone in person who has the same taste in music as myself.
That, and it is nice to have a place to come to, where you recognize everyone–I mean, you get to know the regulars, and it’s obvious who’s writing what even before you read the name.
I mean, it’s kind of like a little neighborhood, and such. Granted, a dark and demented neighborhood more often than not, but that’s half the fun.

Guestthis is a nice little discussion here, isn’t it? all the regulars coming out of the woodwork to welcome a guest and reflect on their own manner of participation. I am a big fan of erika, I know her best as the woman who is exposing her neice to the wonders of NMBC. I can’t wait for ryan to come!
you guys have all been on this site and into the film music much longer than I have. I remember noticing that ‘the evil music is what made me sad’ during my first veiwing of edward scissorhands when I was.. hmm.. 5.. I like to pretend that observations like that made me a lifetime fan, but the real interest started just last january. (we’ll just skip over the 1993-94 enfatuatoin with jack skellington, shall we ladies and gentalmen?) I’d like to know how each of you got started!

GuestHello Lexi
I’m a new guy around here too, but I’ve been into Danny’s music since the Batman Returns sountrack nad I still have it in the original cassette. It sounds pretty good although I play it very often on my car’s radio.
Well nice to know that more people is around listening to Elfman’s great music.
From me, you have a great welcome aboard!!!!July 23, 2002 at 6:39 pm #40961Anonymous
GuestMy son is getting an early start
July 23, 2002 at 9:09 pm #40965Anonymous
Guestwell, what a lucky son! hmm… why is Jack’s head so distorted in that picture, beth?
July 23, 2002 at 10:29 pm #40968Anonymous
GuestI had the flash off so it would’nt bounce off the t.v. with just a blinding light. No flash, jack was moving, therefore a distorted head.

Guestah. so what is the son’s favorite song? b.t.w: what’s everyone else’s favorite nightmare song?

GuestHis favorite song is the “Boogie, Boogie” song.
He also comes screaming out of his room, “What is this?” Then he crashes into the sliding glass door, curls up his fist and says, “Kissmas Town, Hmmmmmmm,” with a really evil looking grin. He’s almost three.
My favorite song is Poor Jack because of the incredible vocals!
The year Nightmare came out, during that year’s Boingo Halloween show Danny screamed, “I am the pumpkin king.” I almost swooned. O.K. I’m a dork.Do you know I’ve met him twice.
-beth, sorry, I’m all done bragging now.

GuestHey, I don’t have a kid (and God willing, never will–no offense to Beth, or any other moms out there), but I’ve got a super-cute Jack Russell, and I’m thinking of trying to rig up a little “Zero” costume for her–just because I’m obsessed damn it!
(And that would be more obsessed with my dog than The Nightmare Before Christmas–because yes, Sadie girl comes even before Danny)! Anyways, she’s all white, with a pink little nose, so I’m thinking it just may work (provided of couse I get someone else to do the sewing for me–it just isn’t a pretty sight, and let’s leave it at that).
Anyways, I’m quite partial to “This is Halloween” just because of how all the vocals weave in and out and play off of one another. As a pure Jack song, I’d have to say I like “Poor Jack” as well–it’s just great with all the emotions Jack shifts through–that, and Danny’s one hell of a great singer!
July 24, 2002 at 2:52 pm #40997Anonymous
GuestI love the oogie boogie song due to the “di`a de los muertos” theme in his lair. also, I once heard the demo of that red person singing it. it’s about the same, but really raw and great!
I always loved poor jack, and hated it at the same time. loved it because it was sung so well, and hated it because I couldn’t sing it. blah. also, at the age of six, I really wanted my own curly hill to walk down. wait. that’s jack’s lament, isn;t it? d’oh!
‘I am the pumpkin king.’?? oh god. it’s like I always say, “if he isn’t singing or holding a guitar, he’s usually making an ass of himself.” have you not seen the ‘hand gestures’ on the farewell concert? ::shiver::

Guest“A big fan,” eh? Thanks for the compliment, Lexi
I started getting into Elfman, actually KNOWING it was him, on the “Sleepy Hollow” score. However, I was into Elfman WITHOUT KNOWING it was him during “NMBC.” I was 10, and a very odd kid…I loved every minute of that movie, even though all my friends thought it was “too scary.” *evil grins* My niece LOVES it, and I’m so proud!
Personally, I think Danny’s the ultimate in good-looking men, but I’m weird…although I think there are a few others on this board who share my opinion
(I love the wild, fluffy, blazing-red hair). Hm…Danny screaming “I am the pumpkin king” at a Boingo Halloween concert? Oh, wow, I really wish I had seen that! (Beth: do you have any pics from the times you’ve met Danny?) Too bad that I can only see the Boingo concerts on video
(Lexi: I kind of like the “hand gestures.” They make me laugh!)
Yes, my favorite – and my niece’s, as well – NMBC song is “This is Halloween.” It sounds so dark and creepy that I can’t help but adore it.
Maybe I could be Danny’s “pumpkin queen?” Ha, yeah right! I’m such a nerd!

GuestI’d like to seee those pics, ms. beth. (yes, erika, I’m one of THOSE people.. bwahahahaha.. couph.) I saw nightmare when I was six, fell in love with jack skellington, years later I saw a pic of mr. E and cowered with disgust.. but of course he grew on me. if you listen to oingo boingo enough, anything can happen.
those hand gestures CAN be nice. remember “do you like to romp and play..” during the farewell film? sorry to say, but between 1986 and 1990 he was mutilated.
all hail erika, the pumpkin queen!

GuestBeth – yes, seeing Boingo concert pics would be wonderful! Thanks in advance…
Lexi – wow, this is an interesting twist, isn’t it? I feel like I’m back in 7th grade – ha! (No offense to the middle school posters here…) I personally enjoy the Danny pics from about 1986 – 1989, but that’s just me…everybody has their favorite “flavor of Elfman,” I suppose. Yes, yes I do remember those infamous gestures during the “romp and play” section of “Nasty Habits.” HaHAAA! Quite…funny, honestly…a priceless moment of Elfman weirdness
July 26, 2002 at 5:06 pm #41065Anonymous
Guestuh.. ‘flavor,’ lady erika. no.. you couldn’t mean…
well, red afros just aren’t my cup o’ tea, I’m afraid. if anyone wants to see the pic from the MIIB premeir, (unless ryan’s already shown it off,) e-mail me, cause I can’t post it, cause I’m an idiot who doesn’t know how to make a web site.. goddammit.
there were plenty of ‘priceless moments of elvin weirdness’ in that whole concert. they really do care.
lexi: and the temperatures startin’ to drop now.. temperatures startin’ to drop. yah!

GuestLexi –
uh, no, I didn’t mean…what you thought I meant. Nope, let me clarify: “Flavor of Elfman” = his various looks, usually revolving around his hair at that particular time (let’s see, it’s gone from curly-short in the early 80s, to fluffy in the mid/late 80s and through the Farewell concert, to just short and – I don’t want to admit this – a slightly receding hairline at the present time. But he’s always had that lovely devlish grin and wickedly morbid sense of humor, both of which I find absolutely endearing

Guestick. the fluffy is your favorite “flavor?” the only way those can be good is if you cover part of his hair so it looks shorter. (you see, I just got Dark at the End of the Tunnel yesterday and tried it.)
if you look at the miib premeir photos, a strange illusion takes place. the bit of hair he used to have sitting on is chin for no apparent reason has shrunk into his skin and grown atop his head. his hair recedes no more!
lexi: master of disguise. (and please refrain from going ‘turtle turtle’ in my presence.)
