As a member of the Sony Pictures Network, they send me five free music downloads on Sony Connect. I figured, great, there are a few songs I’ve wanted for a while. Immediately I downloaded “Orion’s Belt” and “Finale” from Men in Black. I searched for more Danny Elfman albums, and the selection was very limited. They had Spider-Man 2, Men in Black, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow, Chicago, and a few tracks from “Darkened Theater 1,” but that was it. So I decided to browse for other albums from other composers. I wanted a track or two from Marc Shaiman’s “61*” score, but they didn’t have a single track from him. Then I looked for anything by Chris Young (primarily Hellraiser, to try to get ready for Spider-Man 3) and they only had “The Gift.” Then I searched for John Debney, Trevor Rabin, John Powell, Bruce Broughton…the choice was from limited to nonexistent. Does anyone have similar problems with other online music stores? Also, any recommendations for my 3 free remaining songs?

It has more to do with the labels and the deals they made with studios than with Sony. A lot of soundtrack albums were negotiated for released on CD long before online music was even an idea.
