I figure everyone else posts practically trivial nonsense on here that doesn’t do any of the other readers one iota of good in their lives but which we all get a kick out of reading just because we’re Elfman fans, so here goes:
I’ve recently been editing my second feature-length video production that I made with my drama students over the summer, and until I actually have music scored by one of those students, I am proud to announce that Elfman’s compositions have consistently and successfully functioned as temp music for just about any scene I’ve wanted to put together. Now, I know some of you have dissed people for such “atrocities” in the past, but it’s fun for me just because I get to listen to Elfman over and over while I work, and for a short time I even get to pretend he has scored my production.
Someday soon, before having the Grand Premiere in Drama class, I’ll have to replace it with my own second-rate compositions, but until then, it sounds SO professional.
Hip! Alas, I *try* to relate Elfman to my students, playing “Main Titles” in Black Beauty while discussing foreshadowing in Lolita (hopefully they’ll see the connection…you know, happy scenery with a melancholy theme…it’s GORGEOUS!), but I don’t think they care. I figured it would get their brains working on how foreshadowing is done in films, but I don’t quite think they can relate that to literature yet…we can hope. As for your summer class project, Brian, that’s really cool
I’ve tried organizing a writing workshop/informal poetry writing and reading time for the past couple summers, but nobody’s interested…so, kudos to you for keeping your kidlets interested!-E (who is, as of late, the absolute queen of completely off-topic discussions…heh…yeah…not exactly something of which to be proud. New game: You know you’re a nutcase when…you feel the need to correct your grammar in an online discussion board post at 2 a.m.)
I think we should all go away. FAR AWAY. And this is coming from someone who’s involved in this…
Now if only I could find someone making a film…
