ParticipantBy that I am not reffering to Tims versions but Joels(though I have a guilty pleasure with the riddler movie).The next batman movie will have the joker played by Heath Legder? I will not knock the actor yet but man what an unlikely choice! and with the joker bieng in this movie I thought of the old scores that Danny did . Would he do it or does he feel that its something left to the past since he is keeping himself innovative which I am greatful for but I feel that its been a while since I have heard a real dark score by him . I am not displeased by any of his work I just really enjoy his really characterized sounding music (This is the dark music I am reffering too) such as pee wee Hermans (yes I thought Pee Wee was a bit dark) ,beetlejuice,and batman. I am happy to hear of a Hell boy sequel especially with Elfman on it and I heard the director (I belive) is pushing for that darker side of his music….I cant wait! and for an off beat laugh I will wear an Oingo Boingo shirt to that movie since my dad skipped out on me going to thier final show at the universal ampitheater which I still give him plenty of shit for .I grew up on Oingo Boingo and in the fifth grade my favorite song was “Only A Lad” and that was also the cruel twist of a response my father gave me for not taking me with him.

ParticipantChristopher Nolan and WB are doing their best to differentiate the new movies (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) from the original franchise. I’m pretty sure that Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are confirmed on the new movie. I remember something about Zimmer working on “Batman Begins” right down the hallway from where Danny Elfman was working on another project (probably “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) and Elfman commented on the irony of it or something… it was a funny story. And yet here we are this month with Hans Zimmer working on “The Simpsons Movie” based on Elfman’s original theme!

ParticipantA bit off topic – I actually thought Heath Ledger was an incredibly cool choice that part, I have high hopes for that Joker performance – I used to think he’s just a decent actor with an appealing exterior, until I saw him in the Brothers Grim, where his perfromance was goofy and off-the-wall at times, with a great sense of comedy, and he totally stole the show (well, no. Peter Stormare sole the show, actually, but that was predictable. I love him).
So… yeah.PS. I am also thrilled that Katie Holmes has been replaced by Maggie Gyllenhal. Yay! I love Maggie, and I was never too keen on Katie Holmes’ acting – except “The Gift” actually, where she was quite convincing (and baaaad for a change
)

ParticipantI hate the musical approach for the new Batman movies.
Putting modern, synthetic music over gothic, Art Deco, grandiose imagery makes no sense to me. Zimmer justifies it by saying, “I think this one has more electronics in it than anything else… I didn’t want to do straight orchestra because Batman, he’s not a straight character. I mean where do you get those wonderful toys from and the technology? So I thought I could embrace a bit more technology in this one… there isn’t a straight orchestral note on this score.”
Stupid.

ParticipantI can’t knock Zimmmer too badly because my sister will hunt me down and do terrible things to me (we are the only siblings and we neatly divided the music world between us – she is a number one Zimmer fan, and I…er… cover the Elfman territory. You should hear us argue
) BUT ever so often Zimmer manages to make a real orchestra sound like a synth, it’s amusing to read about him talking of a “straight orchestral note” versus technology.
I can’t recall a very memorable theme from the Batman Begins score, which is a pity, because (even?) Zimmer can work a memorable theme.
