Guestaw. i had hop too.
lexi: absorbing advice from the darkened people’s complaints, she immediatly placed her newly acquired anthology discs into different containers than the cardboard thingy it came in.
p.s. that sounded smart until we came to ‘cardboard thingy.’

GuestI lost patience with the record companies long ago and made my own rarities disc with downloaded MP3’s. I just wish some of the songs were recorded better. ( like “I’ve got to be entertained)

GuestMatt –
Where’d you get the rare stuff? I HOPE it wasn’t on the now-defunct Boingo Graveyard, because if you did, well, I’m outta luck. Please let me know either way, though, because I can’t come up with any rarities (or much of anything re: Boingo) on any of the download sites.
-E
PS: Now, before people start JUMPING on me about downloading music, I am talking about the rarities (the unreleased stuff). Yes, I do buy ALL of Elfman’s scores, and the actual Boingo CDs and/or records when I can find them. I don’t download stuff off the net unless that it the ONLY way of getting it. Happy?

GuestDamn…im busy as a MOFO
You know what? I think MATT should do something cool and find a place to stash the rare songs so we can all have a peek. I have the same problem, and they have enough rare songs to make an antire album…Sucks ass. Either that or maybe Matt can make a deal with ryan to have a little rare section in here…Just a thought.
HEY GUYS!!!!! WAZZA!September 19, 2002 at 11:51 pm #42169Anonymous
Guestyou know… there have, from time to time been people in the yahoo oingoboingo club who have talked about setting a time to be on something like wimMX or kazaa and making d/l’s available, but no one seemed interested.
lexi now knows, i’ll clue everyone else in as well. there are a LOT of wonderful boingo fans who will trade for blanks and postage. you need to go join the clubs and newsgroups. you need to participate in the conversations so peopel feel like they know you. then you need to just ask nicely.
granted, that might not net you the super rare stuff. boingo trading gets pretty darned political. i don’t know why. not sure i even care why anymore, but there are rules that are never spoken, can’t be explained and you just have to abide by them or get ostracised, but that’s just how it is.
however, the stuff that was on the graveyard is not really considered to be rare anymore, just “unreleased.” it’s hardly rare if it sat online for a year or more for the massed to download. basically, anyone who’s been paying attention to boingo online for more than a year or so probably has all that, so how rare can it be??
don’t take that as me being a smartass, please. i just mean that this stuff will actually be very easy to acquire if you follow the above instructions. there is a lot of it though, so it will take time if people are doing it bit by bit for you.
ryan has a great elfman site, but the truth is, it is not a boingo site. i am very much pleased that ryan has been granting us the boingo conversations at all here. but the fact is this is not a big boingo place and probably won’t net you a ton of boingo trades. i have suggestions though.
first i’ll toot my own horn and maybe get some life back in my club
try http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oingoboingo
you have to join. you have to establish a yahoo id. but you get photos, chat, file sharing (I’ll do an mp3 of the week if enough people would give a crap), message board, and of course, ads for all kinds of crap you don’t want/need, but hey, that’s life on the net.
roughly 300 memebers, not many actively posting, but a lot of them read.
if you spam my group or start any flame wars i will not hesitate to delete you from the list. i don’t mind off topic from time to time, but if i get a 52 post thread about how cool you are because you pierced your nipple with a rusty safety pin, i will restrict your abilty to post. it’s fine to share something about your self, it’s not ok to be that off topic for that long.
i give fair warning before i go status happy.
other yahoo groups for boingo:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/boingo this one has a ton of activity right now. unfortunately, not a lot of it is related to boingo, but at least it is a resource of people who might trade. I don’t advise the email option though. your mailbox will be swamped with one liners and discussions of someone’s girlfriends eating habits or favortie color or some such. but still, it’s got some really redeeming qualities. mostly that it is a huge list with a lot of old timers subscribing.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/deadmansparty this is not the list for the tribute band, i promise. this is a good group. the moderator has an incredible collection and often gives a lot of it away in little contests. she doesn’t tolerate flames or spam either.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/elfmania tj haga, frequent poster here and at the elfman zone moderates this one. he’s got a very similar member list to mine. has about the same fits and spurts activity as mine. we just seem to have different active members.
newsgroups are basically dead, but there are two usenets, one boingo, one elfman. obviously, the boingo one is far more likely to get you boingo trades. it is alt.fan.oingo-boingo if you don’t have a news server, go to google.com and search on GROUPS and type that nifty little bit in and it will take you to it, sign you up and allow you to post. google has about a 3 hour post delay on average and from time to time delays your post by a day or more. don’t panic if you don’t get immediate responses.
also, i trade, very slowly, in moderation and mostly just in the summer. i’m eyeball deep in a new job that is kicking my butt so now is not a good time, but it won’t always be a bad time. i prefer to trade for other material, but will do b&p from time to time (like in the summer when i don’t work). other material does not necessarily have to be audio, it does not necessarily have to be boingo.
hint: i currently adore adam ant, have always adored the police, am terribly stuck int he 80’s.
ok, i’ve taken up enough elfman space with a boingo post, but maybe this will take some of the boingo stuff into an environment that might be more productive. i’d love to have the traffic in my club and i’m sure ryan won’t mind if we focus more on danny here than boingo.
happy trading. savor the quest.

Guestoh btw pammy, tape recieved the day before yesterday. elfman must really be sick of his own songs, he forgets the words so much! geez, he even mumbles during Home Again! don’t even talk about the Hey performance. that must have been the weakest grunt i’ve ever heard! or maybe it was just a bad recording. :shrugs: but still, it was awesome to see these performances! weee!
lexi: the neglected newbie

GuestPammy – thanks for the trading info…much appreciated! I gotta start posting on the clubs more often

Dobbs – Glad you’re back, and that you’re not dead. (Although planning in case of that event, I was thinking of who would be selected as the new “grab your torches and pitchforks” cattle caller…) You sound relatively sane and like you’ve had too much coffee, both of which are very good things. Welcome back to the…how the hell do you characterize this place? Ah well, welcome back to whatever this is.
Lexi – My dog has been neglecting me today, and my students all think I’m a flippin’ psycho but otherwise generally ignore me, AND the neighbor lady who has lived next to me for 4 years just now figured out that my name isn’t Sarah. So, from one neglected person to another, hello, and don’t get your calves in a twitch about it…to avoid that, switch to decaf and carry an economy-sized pumice stone at all times(which doubles as a deterrent to potential stalkers).
-E (who has taken quite a shine to the group “The Meatheads…,” and has been previously stalked by the manager of a local deli…nothing quite like a guy staring at you while almost getting his hand amputated by the meat slicer)

Guesti think my neglected self is the effect of my lack of communication. i think i have been inside too long. i mean, at first it was simply ‘to avoid the sun’ or ‘really bright fog’ but now i think i have also avoided human contact outside of school. homework and internet ruled my life for a very long time. day after day it’s the same old routine, and i am beginning to long for the sound of screams. The average member of the darkened people usually just disappears and comes back all, ‘hello! what I miss?’ i think I shall announce my holiday. (oh god, now i’m turning british?) I’ll probably be back soon, though. see ya’ll later!
goodbye-goodbye,
lexi: may her return to the silver screen have an equal or better storyline and an introduction to a sidekick named Ichabod or Something Similar. He or she can be played by Em.September 20, 2002 at 5:26 am #42177Anonymous
GuestLexi, my excuses for staying inside are thus:
The West-Niles virus (although I have yet to meet anyone with it, which is weird because Mississippi is suppose to be one of the worst States effected)
and
The Sun is Evil and it must be stopped.
Nat who can live by moonlight alone, who’s with me?

GuestMe! I work best from the hours of 10 p.m. – sunrise. Gotta hide all those bodies sometime, right?! Mwahahaha…uh, not really. It’s actually because I”m a flippin’ nutty writer and musician…but hey, Danny works at night too, so I’ve got to be doing something right! Solidarity, men (and women)!
Ah, I get to go back to being a full-time student in less than 3 months! More time inside studying into the wee hours of the morning, drinking gourmet coffee… Hooray for me! I’m a geek; I love learning…my next project: learning Russian…gotta be able to translate my tattoos

Well, Lexi, it’s been fun…really, it has. I’ve enjoyed your stories, and funny comments. But yes, we all need real human contact, if only for a few hours a month; a computer screen and faceless “people” (no offense) can only do so much…I know that all too well. Hope to see you back someday, kid.
-E (who had really frightening dreams about werewolves when she was a kid. Now, she just has frightening dreams about having children…werewolves, children…same thing…)

GuestAll the rare stuff I got from the now extinct audiogalaxy. Here’s what I have on the CD:
1.a capella ditty
2. better luck next time
3. animals
4.battle of the queens
5. I’m afraid
6. I was a teenage monster
7. Louise
8. I was always there
9. lap of luxury
10. danny’s “Merry Christmas”
11. All the Pieces
12. Freak Show
13. hold me back
14. find you
15. why’d we come
16. something isn’t right
17. sluggo
18.yodel
19.running on a treadmill
OK, so a few of those are available on CD; nobody’s perfect. I didn’t even get all the ones I wanted like Commando Girls, nuclear babies, two twisted trees, and there’s probably a few others. I’m more than willing to share, but I don’t have access to a computer (except at school). But I can use my friend’s CD burner whenever.September 20, 2002 at 10:39 pm #42189Anonymous
GuestEh…Im a dead man waitin to happen. I get sick one week, then catch something else the next week. I think me needs to see a doc about this crap..but i guess when you’re working in an office with a lot of people, you’re prone to every virus in the book. Never used to happen before, either…I’d be paranoid if i gave a @!#$. I seem to like fevers…
Anyway, about the Boingo stuff..you know, aside from money talking, i dont see the point in having to go through all that effort and joining the group just to nab a handful of the rare stuff…as fun as it sounds to be in a club…Then again, this is a kind of club, isn’t it? Only problem is, we’re all Boingo poor! besides it gives me a hidden agenda, and i wouldn’t like to go into the club sporting that…Still writing from work, unfortunately. As long as i get OT i guess i have the time to type in here. Right now grabbing the torches and pitchforks is being replaced with grabbing your shotguns and chainsaws, because this damn illlness crap is pissing me OFF!

GuestI think we should start a movement to outlaw the sun, and illness. The good thing about being sick is having someone bring you ice cream and more blankets, and you get to sit on your arse and watch movies all day…oh wait, that only happened when I was 10. Yep, now I get sick, and I’m stuck 1) going to work with students who are purposely obnoxious when they can tell I’m sick and 2) still having to work my arse off to get everything done. I tried to believe in the whole “mind over matter” thing, but that only worked for so long. The good thing about the sun is…it’s hot, and it burns…yeah, I’m all for it! Considering that I’m about the whitest white person I know, I’ll bet you can’t guess how I spend *my* summer…but in 3 months, I’ll be living in a country with sun, sand, and scantily clad people galore…go figure! Yeah, I can just see how they’d respond to my request of, “Would you like to sign my petition to outlaw the sun? *Pause while they start walking away* *Me yelling after them* Well then, what about illness? That probably doesn’t trip your trigger quite like that cancer-causing ball of gas, huh?!”
-E (going to dinner with your parents on a Friday night isn’t so relaxing…I’m ticked off, and going to bed)

GuestYes, Canada is good…I’m wearing my “Canada” shirt right now (it’s red and says, “Canada” in big white letters…original, yes, I know…)…but alas, I have to go to an exceptionally hot, sunny country surrounded by beaches and people who have much darker skin than myself…oh boy, I can’t hardly wait for all the “albino” references. *Grumble* But it will be an experience, it’s only for a year if I so choose, and I get paid to go back to school, so I shouldn’t complain too much…I am getting out of the hellhole that is Nebraska
But another crappy thing (besides the sun and general hotness) is that Danny’s music, not to mention film scores alone, will be SO difficult to locate! Arrggghhh!!! - AuthorPosts
