GuestThe new copy of Film Score Monthly reports that Danny Elfman has signed on to Tim Burton’s BIG FISH (debunking the rumors of Howard Shore landing the job) and also on to the second SPIDER-MAN film (in case there was any doubt he’d return).
In addition, the issue states that Elfman has written some music for the new on-air graphics on the STARZ! channel.

GuestYAHOO! So when’s BIG FISH supposed to come out in theatres anyway?

Guestare these confirmed reports? I mean I don’t doubt he’ll be doing TB movies for the remainder of both their careers.
Spider-Man 2? I saw Elfman quoted as saying he didn’t want to do any more action movies, and the only reason why he did Spider-Man, was because Raimi was such a good friend.
does anyone know issues of copyrights? I know the studios own the music anyway, but would Danny have to sign off if they wanted to use the themes?does it depend on each contract?January 18, 2003 at 12:07 am #43800Anonymous
GuestRichard — FSM confirmed them in print, it’s right there in John’s post!
Of course, you knew that

GuestWell, I know that Danny is a member of BMI, and I think if you look around enough at all his listed pieces you will find the Spider-man score which means that they contact BMI, and get to use his themes or the acual music pieces and he will get royalties from them (they don’t even have to contact him, I have a copy of the BMI contract). But I wouldn’t like it too much if someone else used those themes, because they are way too Danny for anyone else to be able to work them well.

GuestFollowing up on the “confirmed?” question, if FSM prints it, it’s usually pretty reliable. Earlier in the fall, when they interviewed Elfman about RED DRAGON, they specifically said that he had NOT YET been signed to either SPIDER-MAN 2 or BIG FISH. They asked him about both projects and he claimed that he was not currently signed to anything forthcoming.
Now that FSM has printed that he will indeed be scoring those films, we can assume that 1) he’s been signed and 2) that they’ve gotten confirmation from his agent / publicist / dog walker / grocer / whatever.
But again, FSM printed it, and I just passed it along. Is it true? You’d have to ask them.
As for the release date of the movie itself, it’s filming now and is likely to be out toward the end of the year.
