GuestIn the soundtrack CD, there is an elongated intro. (as apposed to the shorter movie intro.) and there is an odd ending sequence before the End Credits. Was this just an “extra” for the CD, or was it removed from the final cut in the movie? I found it pretty dang odd when I heard it for the first time (especially that weird ending), and to tell you the truth, I like the shorter intro. for the movie better.

ANY info. would be great. Thanks.

GuestYou’re talking about the unlisted 21st track?

Guestwell, i rather like the longer beginning, but the ending just screws up your imagination! though, jack’s kids apparently have a xlaphone band, and you can’t beat that! but wait! all of his kids were skeletons! and how do they have kids anyway??
lexi: bee afraid. bee very afraid.. so he sting me. then nat kicked my ass.

GuestNo, he’s talking about track number 20, in which the narrator tells us that Sally and Jack got marrried and had kids.
I also found this strange.

GuestSince it is a different Narrator (I like Patrick Stewart better than the film version) it was probably done to add a ending to the “Disney”(in every way but name) album.
Nat, oh yea, I said I liked Partrick Stewart, now bring it on (cue the music & swarm of nijas around me)!

GuestI like Patrick Stewart. Never fear, Small Buzzing Insect Man, I’ll help defend you from the “swarm of ninjas” before they mash you to a pulp and spread you on their English muffins (I’ve heard ninjas are batty about English muffins…).

Guestthis was actually one of the first endings that was planned for the film and we got sanata claus doing the narration.
i say this because in one of the early drafts (from 1991) this was what followed jack and sally’s final love scene.-Alonso (“…the scene where the horseman enters the family’s house is… quite chilling”) Vences

GuestNow, I could be totally wrong here, but I *think* that last narration is actually from the Tim Burton “Poem” that started it all.

GuestI think the narration on the c.d. is from the original poem, too. I remember seeing it in one of those Nightmare Before Christmas books that first came out when the movie was all nice and popular.

GuestI wish there was a multiple CD release of NMBC like the Disney “Music Behind the Magic” 4 CD set on Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. It contains the original Aladdin songs that had to be scraped when the story changed. It’s a wonderful package full of demos and early home recordings from Menken and Ashman. A 2 CD set could probably be made of NMBC, if Danny wanted to release all of his demo material. With Disney re-releasing all of their Disney scores on CD, this would be a great way to commemorate NMBC’s score and movie. All of this is just wishful thinking I guess, because I don’t think it will ever happen – just a thought.

GuestJust to liven the conversation and hopefully start a few fights, I would have to say I prefer to NOT be subjected to such extra material. I like the experience of seeing the movie as the theater showed it. I generally skip any extra materials on DVD’s…I couldn’t care less what scenes were scrapped. If they were scrapped, there must have been a good reason; namely, it didn’t fit the movie. Why cram something back in that wasn’t meant to fit?
Go ahead! Take your best shot! (sticks chin out)

GuestSooo I’m guessing you also skip the intro. and the ending sequence on the soundtrack CD also? . . . *Kicks Brian in the right leg*

Guesthmm.. i donno.. I rather like the deleted scenes from films. look at novacaine! that “toothbrush in the guys head” really showed me what the movie was like. funny.. creepy.. surprising..; however, the deleted scenes from nightmare were silly. (except the oogie boogie song’s extended version which introduced me to my taste for demos.) sure, the scenes were deleted because they were the least important, but if the film producers had the time, they would have had them in there for sure! oh wait! not planet of the apes reimagined, though. to add any length of film to that movie would be a crime.
lexi: I’ve got an idea for a joke! okay, fill in the blank:

GuestI guess some people want to know more about movies and how they are put together, and some are just content to watch the magic trick without knowing the secret behind it. Personally, I want to know the secrets. Plus, the reasons for deleting a scene are numerous, and not always up to the director – hence the director cuts of films (heck, there are 3 different cuts of “Army Of Darkness” alone). The studios usually have the last say on the picture, because they are the guys writing the checks [that is unless the director is big enough to be given final cut (and sometimes it is the producer)].
I like to write songs, so I think it is interesting to look into the process that Elfman uses to write his songs – is that simple enough?
I always find it interesting to look at detail analysis of music of any kind. And I pray for the day when a complete Oingo Boingo annotated songbook is printed (much like the one that was produced for the Beatles). I know it probably won’t happen, so I have 2 choices: 1.Do without, 2.Do it myself, and who knows, I might.
There’s my little defense for the “deleted scene” syndrome that has infected many-a-person. Including me!

Nat who plans on using my day off tomorrow, listening to the “Monster’s Inc.” Commentary. – PIXAR movies have some great commentaries for anyone wanting to go into the animation field, and story telling in general (all of their films are tight story wise IMHO).
