For years, I’ve watched the Farewell concert on VHS every Halloween night. It’s been a little trickier since having young kids, trying to remember the parts where Danny drops the “F” bomb so I can hit the “mute” button in time. Anyway, my VCR has finally crapped out and I decided over the weekend it was time to get the DVD. But I had no idea it was so hard to come by. Just a couple of years ago, I remember seeing some on the shelf at Best Buy. Now Amazon only has used copies– asking between $86 and $150! I’m sure this appears on Ebay occasionally but I don’t see any there right now. Does anyone know of any other distributors that still carry this DVD, hopefully for a more reasonable price? Halloween’s not going to be the same without the Farwell concert (although having the remastered Nightmare on DVD will help ease the pain a bit).

I reckon this DVD is out of print. Which is why ebay dealers are asking so much for it. The chances of you finding this at a retail level sounds slim.

It’s not like it’s been on DVD for that long (like 5 or 6 years?). I’m not that surprised if it’s out of print, but I didn’t think the demand would be so high that the major suppliers are completely out of them.

Seems like a good time for someone (meaning Danny) to properly shore up the Boingo legacy by re-releasing this. The DVD was pretty much a straight transfer of the VHS if I remember correctly, so get the thing remastered, get all the guys together and film a reunion dinner or something, do a “where are they now” feature, etc. I’m not sure how the rights work with the various labels the band was under, but it would also be great to have all the music videos on the same set. I can understand how this would be hugely complicated for some bands, but for Oingo Boingo I can’t imagine this would be that difficult or expensive. Or is the bigger issue here that Danny has moved on and isn’t really interested anymore?

Wow… I had no idea it was out of print. Last time I was in NY (in february), Virgin Mega Store in Times Square still had one copy left…

Try looking for smaller shops, or even on foreign online-stores. I live in Switzerland, and there’s an online store called : http://www.cede.ch and it seems like they still have a copy (for 42swiss francs, which is pretty close to 40$ us)….

I ordered mine from Borders along with the Oingo Boingo book, ‘Clowns of Death’.
It was not a lot of money at all; but then again, this was a couple years back.
And I’m sure I saw the same DVD as boingomusic did when I was in the Virgin Mega Store as well; but I don’t know if the price was any different then what I payed at Borders….
