I don’t know if Danny Elfman ever visits this site or answers questions, but I have one (in case he does). I was hoping he could settle an argument.

My brother and I were in a new wave band in the late 1970s and early 1980s called Zinc Orbie, based in Orange County, CA. Our quasi-manager was looking to set us up for a gig at The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach and he returned saying that Oingo Boingo extended an offer to us to open for their band. He said he played our music for Johnny Vatos and he was agreeable with us as an opening act. But this never made sense to me because Danny Elfman was the decision maker for that group, as I always understood. At any rate, we weren’t really ready to perform in such a venue and we backed down.

My brother and I were reminiscing about this the other day and he reminded me about the offer. I told him there must have been a mistake because Vatos couldn’t make such a decision. It must have come from Elfman – if it existed at all.

Just curious if Elfman could clear this up. I suspect his response would be “I have no memory of such an insignificant event.”

Yes, I think that is pretty much a given. Unfortunately, Mr. Elfman does not visit this forum (at least not to my knowledge).

But cool to know that you had a “link”, sort of, to the band once upon a time.

You may want to try Steve Bartek’s website, on the forum you can leave messages for Steve, and he is generous enough to reply, when he can. Vatos has a website as well.

I’ll check them out. If anyone, Vatos would be the one to remember.
    Thanks.
