GuestFrom http://www.dvdtalk.com:
Universal has announced 3 separate DVD releases for Red Dragon on April 1st: Widescreen Collector’s Edition, Full Frame Collector’s and a 2 Disc Director’s Edition. Both Collector’s Editions will feature: Audio Commentary by Director Brett Radner and Writer Ted Tally, Hannibal Lecter profile by profiler John Douglas, The life history of Hannibal Lecter, Deleted Scenes, and more. The Director’s Edition includes all the features from the Collector’s Edition plus: Director Brett Ratner’s Video Diary, A rare look at the film production, Brett Ratner’s untitled student film a film from NYU Film School, Screen and Film Tests, The Dragon Tattoo, Storyboard to Final Feature Comparisons.
Director’s edition seems to be the one to get, provided the price is right. Who buys full frame DVD’s anyway? It’s like buying a banana without the peel… or something.

GuestDon’t get me started on fullscreen DVDs — the worst idea of all-time. I’ve enjoyed DVD, looks like the format is going to hell.

GuestPart of the problem is that technology went in the wrong order. They should have focused on wide-screen TV’s first, then DVD’s. What’s going to happen is everyone’s going to find even their spanking brand new DVD collections rendered obsolete by the full-on arrival of HDTV and its new specs. Someone at the SMPTE needs to sit down and get his head together and figure out what the TV of the future is before we start coming out with new storage formats for movies. I suggest sticking with VHS tapes, because the prices are dropping like a rock! (That’s what I’ve been doing… I get the movies I want, but I’m not spending an arm and a leg that I’ll just have to spend again when HDTV takes over.)
Then, when whatever the new TVs are going to be do indeed come to be, start buying whatever storage medium works best with them.
