Elfman Isn’t isn’t in RED DRAGON as the flautist, it’s a gay-looking bald guy that gets eaten. Too Bad. BUT LALO SCHIFFRIN is noticeable as the CONDUCTER!!! Remember that Danny worked Lalo’s Mission: Impossible theme with the Movie Version a few years back.

Anyway, that trivial Elfman cameo wasn’t worrying me about the movie. what worried me was if it would match with LAMBS. Well… It EXCEEDS Lambs!!!

Although There are Some Unreleased Cues in the movie should have been on the CD, in my opinion…

    – The Intimate Moment at the Beginning of the movie with Molly and Will (it sounds like “Sore Spots” from Batman Returns)
    – Will’s first look at the crime scene at night (elfman hits the image of a bloody bed with shrill strings that last almost thirteen seconds!!!).
    – The Movie version of the Main Title (while not different from the CD version, it has more choir at the end).

I caught a sneak peek a few days back and was floored by Ratner’s attention to detail — I swear to god they used the exact same lighting effects that Demme used in Lambs. I’m still hard pressed to say which I like better, though — Lambs was such a part of growing up with me (I saw it when I was like 12)… but Red Dragon was good too. A lot of it is plot… I enjoyed the delving into the nature of good and evil aspect of Dragon/Manhunter — and that was always missing from Lambs because you invest more time in Hannibal (essentiall and evil character that root for and escapes). And yet, Lambs was just done so perfectly, that even with (perhaps) the less interesting philosophy/psychology, I enjoyed watching it more. So… I don’t know.

    >>>Elfman Isn’t isn’t in RED DRAGON as the flautist, it’s a gay-looking bald guy that gets eaten. Too Bad. BUT LALO SCHIFFRIN is noticeable as the CONDUCTER!!!<<< Ahhhhhhh… I thought you were saying Elfman WAS in the movie… I was gonna say, I missed that. Anyway, I also missed Schiffrin — I’ll have to see the film again. ;-)

It took me a minute to see the connection… “Why the hell is Lalo in this film?” Then I realized, “Oh yeah — Rush Hour.”

    >>>Will’s first look at the crime scene at night (Elfman hits the image of a bloody bed with shrill strings that last almost thirteen seconds!!!).<<< YES YES YES!!! I noticed that! Here’s hoping there’s an isolated score, so I can pick that sucker up. Peace Love and all that Jazz. . .

Jesus, just fricking tell us the whole movie, why don’t ya? Buhahaha..not that youd actually be revealing anything surprising:

I heard that the book was basically a rough draft of Lambs, so the plot was more or less the same. And i also read that the movie is good mainly because Hannibal in a cage is FAR more entertaining than him roaming free. Elfman’s score is pretty good…but listening to this the only thing that crosses my mind right now is “Ok, Ratner got his score released for this movie..how about Family Man, Dammit?!?!”

And someone tell me one thing: what does the name tooth fairy have to do with the killer?Does he remove people’s teeth or something??

well, i’ll never get my friend to see it if elfman doesn’t die.. and judging from the first few pages of the script he would have been funny as hell.

lexi: and should i die before i wake know that i never truly lived at all.

Oh yeah, I enjoyed it immensely! Although the person I went with was noticeably disturbed when I started laughing at Hannibal’s witticisms. In my friend’s line of thought, “You can’t laugh at a cannibal!” My thought: “But he’s funny – what’s so wrong about that?” Anyway, I thought it was great, the scoring to film was great, Fiennes had a superb performance as Dolarhyde, Emily Watson was good, and then there’s of course THE SCORE! This one beats Spider-man as my second most favorite Elfman score. Although I WAS saddened that Elfman wasn’t the the “blue plate special”…
