GuestSo, to sum it up, this score is definitely as thematic as the hype suggested. We haven’t heard an End Credits “Suite” from Elfman in many years. Most of his new end credits compositions were brief and forgettable. This makes for a redeeming disk.
PLUS, we get chorus!

GuestThanks for posting, but just a few things — how do you come to the conclusion that this score is “more thematic” because it has an end credits suite? And how does an end credits suite make an album “redeeming”?
I haven’t had a problem with any of Danny Elfman’s albums, even those with brief end titles.

Guestokay. a suite is a piece of music with more than two themes intertwined together. That clues us into the fact that this score is somewhat thematic. Now they call Track 17 “End Credits Suite”. That’s just my reasoning.
I don’t have a problem with his later film credits either, but shorter than usual “end titles” have a tendency to put me down in the dumps.
The last SUITE for an END CREDITS NUMBER that I can really remember him doing was Batman Returns, which was wonderful. That’s why i think this will be redeeming.
I could be wrong though. We’ll have to wait and see.

GuestMan, I can’t wait to hear this soundtrack.

GuestHey guys, do think that the sountrack is going to have dialogs on it. I read the rumor here on this forum, and I don’t like the idea.

GuestI think you’re getting “themes” mixed up with individual “cues” or pieces of music. A suite is a selection of pieces from a larger work.
The end titles from BATMAN RETURNS is comprised of original material/cues from the score, not necessarily a reprisal of all the themes.
Still, it’s not worth arguing about.

GuestIt most certainly is worth arguing about! The Batman Returns end titles was not just a cut-and-paste job like what Williams did for “Hook.” There are entirely new arrangements of the themes that weren’t heard in the movie.
(releasing steam)

Okay, NOW it’s not worth fightning about.

Guestfight fight fight fight
I think it is HILARIOUS to see a fight over a score that hasn’t even been heard yet.
This score better be good for as much crap as it has caused on this board.

GuestI’m looking for something rapacious and Herrmanesque — lotta slasher strings, but we already had that….so..oh well.

GuestHey bobby,
I answered this on another thread, but I wrote a letter to Decca and they told me that the Red Dragon would not have any dialogue on it. If you want me to reprint the letter word-for-word I will, but it was short and definitely suite (pun, pun, pun right here, do you see it).

Whether it is a cut and paste job of preexisting music or it is rerecorded is just a matter of how much time the composer has on the scoring stage, but the reason why Danny’s End Credit piece are so great is that even if he doesn’t have time to rerecord them, then he can just remix it (as he has been know to do lately) and create a piece full of fun sounds and something different for the CD/Movie.
Just some news, and thoughts by “your humble correspondent” – Nat

GuestUhh, Ryan, I don’t get it?
YOUR STATEMENT:
“The end titles from BATMAN RETURNS is comprised of original material/cues from the score, not necessarily a reprisal of all the themes.”YOUR BATMAN RETURNS REVIEW:
“…Also included is a terrific suite of the score as the “End Credits”, not just re-iterating the dominant themes, but spinning variations on them”You see Ryan, that’s what I’m looking forward to, if it actually happens on this album.
