GuestIt comes around every so often. A particular person, w ith nothing to do, decides to post their views, however purposely skewed, to rec.music.movies.danny.elfman. What are they trying to achieve? Well for starters, they’re trying to get under the skin of Danny Elfman’s fans. There is no honest effort to prove a point. It’s done in sheer malice.
So, if you are reading this, and are a Danny Elfman fan, please remind yourself of why you are. It’s the music. I don’t know anything about the technical aspects of music. I can’t write notes, can’t orchestrate. I just know what I like. And this may be the time when someone who criticizes Danny’s music chimes in with “Well I know the technical aspects and as for that, Danny sucks.” Big deal. A composer doesn’t have to be technically correct to write ear-pleasing music. If the whole mess comes out sounding right, isn’t that the desired effect?We as fans have to keep our focus away from the detractions and remember that we are all that matter. There will always be people who try to pick Danny’s music apart. Saying they’ve found the source for the BATMAN Theme, or that he doesn’t write his own music. These are all false claims that we, fans of perhaps the most misunderstood composer in film today, have to deal with.
So here is my plan to deal with these dissidents. Let’s ignore them. We don’t really need to hear why they think Danny’s music is lacking. Do we? I for one just want to enjoy his music for what it is – sometimes rollicking, sometimes heartbreaking but always something that I _want_ to listen to. There is no other sound, made by any other artist that appeals to me like his music does. And I like you who read this, want to know everything they can about his music, his future projects, etc. This doesn’t mean I want to go through his garbage (I’m sure James Horner has already *Joke*). It just means that we all have been touched by his music and that is all that matters.
Don’t let the petty jealousy of some hack, who has studied composition at University for the young years of his life, only to be scoring direct-to-video MIGHTY DUCK movies. Sure enough, Danny never took any classes to write the music he does. So isn’t it natural the is very un-professional colleagues be jealous? Of course it is. So if Danny doesn’t care about what people say about him, why should we?
Danny Elfman is in the top ranks of film composers. I mean the top as in: 1) John Williams, 2) Jerry Goldsmith, 3) Danny Elfman and 4) James Horner. These are not my rankings as favorite composers, just what I believe to be where they stand when it comes to number, diversity, and quality of films scored. He is there for a reason: top directors (like Gus Van Sant, Taylor Hackford, Jon Amiel, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, Micheal Apted, Barry Sonnenfeld, Brian DePalma) want him to score their films because they know he will give them a memorable theme, some terrific music, and enhance their film.
So if you get upset about what someone says, just brush it off, ignore it, and don’t fuel their fire. If there is one thing someone wants when they make a nasty statement, it’s a response. They want fans to react. Let’s not give them the satisfaction and just enjoy our music. Danny Elfman will continue to enrich my life with his music no matter what anyone says.

okay, fellas (‘fellas’ said in special chris sarandon lisp. see: “just a second fellas!”) anyways, here’s da plan. if someone insults our boy, we shall only ignore and not criticize them. the music for a darkened people crowd may not be known to run off and insult another composer at his/her own site, but we are probably known for nastily pushing the enemy down after they insult us. as my hispanic friend says, “you mess with one bean, you messin’ with the whole burrito!” right? well, no more. we don’t have to respond to their shiznit as long as we know it’s not true. just to make sure we don’t respond it is the duty of the first person to read an idiot insult to post a reply reading something like, “don’t repsond to this message.” or something similar.
lexi: how’s that sound fellas?

GuestThe hermit crab didn’t die after 20 years…more like not quite a year…as a small pet owner, I suck! Man, imagine what it’d be like if I were a small children owner…er, oops, I meant “parent.”
“Yeah..no burritoes for you, missy…” Eh well. I’ve got other things to deprive myself of (social interaction and family gatherings come to mind…), so a burrito or two isn’t going to totally crush my self-esteem…so sorry to disappoint you…
-E (I thought you were all supposed to be ignoring me? Not very good at following directions, are you?)

Guest::beep:: “end of simulation.”
damn, that was the worst demonstration ever. we were supposed to be ignoring erika.. (“the dumass” no, erika, you aren’t a dummass, you were pretending to be one.) yet somehow, we just started going off! but then again, at least we didn’t start the old, “who are you to insult elfman’s work?! he-.. blah blah blah.. though I admire horner, he sucks blah blah..” i grow weary of those conversations.
lexi: so very weary.

GuestUh…um…I was just kidding…it was supposed to be SARCASTIC…
I don’t know how old that hermit crab was; I’ve replaced it with a Beta fish
-E (who needs to have lots of pets to make her feel appreciated…although I’m not exactly sure how a fish is supposed to accomplish that…)

Pretending? Heck no! I’m like this every day of the weak! (I had to amuse myself somehow…writer’s humor, I guess…)

PS: I think it’s actually “dumb ass,” otherwise it might be pronounced similarly to Alexandre Dumas’ surname *evil grin*
