ParticipantI’m sitting and watching “Army of Darkness” from the once-great Sam Raimi, just after Danny’s “March of the Dead” theme played, and I noticed that the preceding musical track by Joe LoDuca when Ash and the army are preparing for battle sounds a TON like the Immediate Music track “The Black Legend.” It can be heard at the last part of the “Van Helsing” trailer and the very end of the “Narnia” trailers. Does the IM track track come from that movie?
And while on the subject of “Evil Dead”-ish things, has anyone seen this forthcoming movie that Bruce Campbell is making called “They Call Me Bruce”? He’s directing and starring in it, and the IMDb plot says: “B Movie Legend Bruce Campbell is mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy and forced to fight real monsters in a small town in Orgeon.” Sam Raimi is not involved so far. Did someone say, “perfect Danny Elfman project”?

KeymasterSpider-Fan, “The Black Legend” is in fact a rip-off of LoDuca’s ARMY OF DARKNESS. Immediate Music has a practice where if a cue from an original score is used in a trailer successfully (like ARMY was in the trailer for CUTTHROAT ISLAND) they rip that music off for one of their compilations. Their “Music For Orchestra & Choir” set is riddled with rips of LORD OF THE RINGS, the E.S. Posthumous album UNEARTHED (used in the PLANET OF THE APES trailer, et al) among others.

ParticipantOhhhhh. So are any of IM’s cues original? My favorite is “Lucius Dei,” which was used perfectly in the trailer for “The Island.” It’s not a rip, is it? Thanks for the info!

KeymasterSome of them are original, some of them are complete rips.
They have a tendency to record their own “versions” of themes and bits from original scores that are used in trailers, like ARMY OF DARKNESS, which became “The Black Legend”.
Immediate’s THEMES FOR ORCHESTRA & CHOIR rips off a lot of E.S. Posthumous’ UNEARTHED album, namely:
“Avenger” (which rips E.S.’ track “Pompei”, used in the POTA trailer)
“Fahrenheit” (another E.S. rip)
“Euphrates” (yes, another E.S. rip, this time a rip of the track used in trailers for UNFAITHFUL, THE CLEARING and others)Also in there…
“All Hell Breaks Loose” (rips Arnold’s STARGATE which was used in the VOLCANO trailer)
“Ultimatum”, “Final Omen 2.0” and “Return to Willowbrook” (huge rips of Shore’s FELLOWSHIP score)
“Salvation” (big ass chorale version of the DRAGON theme!!)My favorite tracks from the set are “Crusade”, “Serenata” (shame, another E.S. rip!), “Holy”, “Hidden Fortress”, “Proud Nation” and my number one favorite, “Worlds Apart”. If anyone is interested in hearing this track, please let me know. It’s not Elfmanish at all, however.

ParticipantRyan, a couple of months ago you posted a clip of a track by them that sounded almost EXACTLY like the Spider-Man Main Titles.
What was the name of it?

ParticipantI believe it was “Legions of Darkness” from the Van Helsing trailer.

KeymasterYep – it was “Legions of Darkness”. Here’s that clip again.
This will probably be what the main titles for SM3 sound like. Ahahaha.

ParticipantThanks!
There’s a couple of posters at the superherohype.com S-M boards that bash Elfman but then go on to praise that horrible, generic music they used for the S-M 2 trailer and say “that’s what the Spidey theme should sound like” or some nonsense like that.
I’d be hilarious if the music for the third film actually ends up sounding like that and they like it.
