I never really wanted to bring this up again, but the truth has to be heard. A while ago somebody posted something saying that Horner thought composing music for film was just a job and nothing else. Well let me put you straight! He actually said,
“I’m a fanatic about Irish music. I love its moody, modal and timeless quality.
I’m different from some other composers, because I don’t look at this as just a job. I think of music as art.” Of all people, I doubt very much that Horner would think of film composing as just a job. His music is just too personal. That’s why I love his music.

dude..i’m sure ANYONE who loves their job would basically be working ALOT..and that guy does do alot of work, year round. That is, unless he has gotten all bloated and lazy from the success of Titanic, which could also be the case…it’s not like he’s a GOD or anything…he gets bored just like the rest of us.

Well, I guess that’s true for Danny too! How much I’m happy with Spider-man, I still think it’s similar to Batman and I have people to back me up on this! Anyway, there is no point in replying to this because most of you will just deny it, as you think Elfman is a god. You may think I’m not a devoted fan, but I am. Even more than most of you because I have the power to accept when Elfman has copied his work, done something naff, etc. I’m also like this with Horner, but not so bad!

We’re not stupid. It’s perfectly feasible to be “devoted” to 2 – or more – film composers. I don’t recall anybody on this site saying “Hey, dude, you have to bleed Elfman and s*it on every other composer.” I like many composers, and right now, I like Evan Evans’ work much moreso than Elfman’s. I seriously doubt that, because of that recent switching of “favorites,” I’m going to be attacked by my fellow posters on this site, and prevented from ever coming back. (But I’m packing my bags, just in case – ha)!

I know Horner’s been attacked on this site before, but that’s because people make assumptions, saying “Anyway, there’s no point in replying to this because most of you will just deny it, as you think Elfman is a god.” That’s what pushes people’s buttons – including mine – and causes them to retaliate with less-than-polite responses. Don’t make personal attacks on other fans, man. That’s not going to fly in my book, and I think it irks others just as much, if not moreso. I’ve noticed that the number of “civilized” posts is dwindling to a small minority, while the number of “personal attack” posts is on the upswing.

I don’t know if all the Horner fans have a personal vendetta against the Elfman fans or vice versa, but I think everyone needs to have a nice juicy mango off of the mango tree in my South American greenhouse and relax for a while. If you’re irritated, you’re certainly entitled to those feelings, but if you make comments like the one stated above (“Anyway, there’s no point in replying to this…”), don’t expect people like me to sit on the sidelines and take it.

Whats the big deal about irking people? It makes you write and spend time arguing, doesn’t it? Better than one small boring little post. It shows you CARE.

Man, you can CARE about something and not make personal attacks against people. I’m not stamping “debate” with a big-arse “rejection” label; that’s not it at all. There are effective ways to debate and argue, and ineffective ways. For those of you who have something to say, and want to get your point across and have people at least see your reasoning, chances are that making statements, which put people on the defensive, aren’t going to work. Debate and argument is great; I love it, as long as it’s done effectively. My next-door neighbor could argue with me about the necessity of war – something which I am passionately against – and if he/she did so EFFECTIVELY, I might not agree with them, but I WOULD see where they were coming from. Make sense?

This is somewhat of a debate,
    Erika

I have to disagree…And i’m merely doing so because i love being disagreeable. It always starts out as a disagreement, then a debate, and then you can guess which is the next degree and so on and so forth…None of this keeps me up at night..so i don’t see the big deal. People love to debate and argue, because this shows our individuality and our efforts at expressing ourselves with our beliefs, opinions or whatever. Call it what you will…we’re all human beings, the most dangerous species on the planet.

Humans are the most ignorant species on the planet–to put it nicely. And I, by far, am not excluding myself. I just find it amusing that it always comes back to Horner….

    Always.
