ParticipantIsn’t this track from The Kingdom a little masterpiece? It’s incredibly beautiful and touching, and a perfect blend between Elfman-the-movie-composer and Elfman-the-alternative-rock-musician. As much as I love Elfman’s orchestral work, it’s refreshing to hear him getting back to a more simple sound. Waiting (and the expanded version, Finale) remind me of his work in Good Will Hunting, with the late great Elliot Smith, and Anywhere But Here. But at the same time it sounds quite new. I liked the film, but I can’t help feeling that Elfman’s soundtrack (specially these very simple tracks) is claiming for a better film, not just a pretty much by-the-numbers action thriller.
