    I just saw the commercial for the new Jim Carrey movie…A Series of Unfortunate Events and they used one of Elman’s tracks from THE FAMILY MAN as the background music…why do movie trailers/commecials do this a lot?

    Because they cut trailers and previews long before the score is written and recorded.

    I think that’s not the only explanation: sometimes, I think they are trying to say to the audiences something like “did you like Edward Scissorhands? So this is much in the same vein, you’ll love it”.
