Despite being an Elfman fan, I’d have to say the awesome aural spectacle of Lord of the Rings (my fellow choir teacher is standing nearby confirming this) was a fantastic score that does indeed elbow out Elfman’s Spiderman (as awesome as IT was). But that’s opinion, and I have no doubt someone will post after me and flay me alive for saying that.

No, just kidding. I also believe that Shore’s LOTR deserved its Oscar, and deserves every award it has gotten thus far. It’s an operatic spectacle; no question about that. Simply divine, utterly gorgeous in each and every track. Although I truly do enjoy Elfman’s “Spider-man,” Shore’s LOTR choral work is simply amazing – the best I’ve heard in a film score (*gulp* edging out Edward as well). Then again, I’ve only been into film scores for a little more than 3 years…god, I’m really opening myself up for attack, aren’t I? *Leaving now*

Man, I thought the score to that movie was so boring! I just don’t get it! Don’t get me wrong, It is a good score. It’s just not what it’s hyped up to be, imo.

Boring? I found it quite beautiful. I thought it was the best score of last year, just a small step above Planet Of The Apes. I did have some problems with it, in so much as I thought some of the themes weren’t completely developed, but I also understood that there is about 6 hours of stories to tell. For anyone interested in this score; I just read that there is a possibility that they will release a 2 CD set of all of the score.

Spiderman I listen to more though, so that would have gotten my vote.

I can definitely understand how some people can find LOTR boring: It is a more complex tapestry of themes, some of which are quite drawn out; so if you’re just not into the mechanics of music, it can feel listless and largely uneventful.

(Much the same feeling I get when my wife tries to explain how she accomplished a new stitch on her sewing devices.)

So don’t feel “out of it,” Nigel. Everyone approaches music differently.

(But the educated among us realize the worth of LOTR.)

    KIDDING!! :-D
