i’m still in the midst of watching this film called nightbreed. it was playing on the mystery channel for some reason and i thought, “nightbreed.. i know that title..” sure enough, ’tis an elfman flick. and i really am liking it! the gore and old-style horror of it is very authentic. it’s making me jump, too. now as for the score, it’s a very early ’90s elfman score. we’ve got the choral “edward scissorhands” bit. even the part where Boone got shot sounded like the emo theme for ES. then, there’s that rough-brass of batman and mostly dick tracy. oops! gotta go! the climax is coming on!

oh, ps: the skin song was played all country style! did you hear it?

Oh I love that movie. Still praying that they will let Barker release the director’s cut on dvd or video. Who’s your fave Nightbreed? Mine’s always been Peloquin or Narcisse. The score is great too, love Elfman’s music for when Lori is exploring Midian. I think it’s called “Carnival Underground”. Yep, noticed “Country Skin”. Does anyone know why they didn’t use Boingo’s version? I think it would’ve fit better.

i can’t choose a nightbreed fave. but i remember liking the crazy gut who peeled off his skin. and the fact that that little girl had all those terrible memories stored inside her made her a sympathetic character to me. i also liked the guy who made the main character.. you know the red guy who called him “meat.” well, the kids had just passed through red neck town, so even thou the song fit, its context could use some tweaking.

The movie is great, but I read somewhere that it was supposed to be the beginning of a big horror saga (that’s why it’s a bit short and has a somewhat open ending, as I remember). For some reason (not enough money at the box-office?) there was never a sequel for this film, a film which I think that – even if it’s far from being a masterpiece – it’s really dark and twisted fun. I’m still thinking if David Cronenberg, a director I very much admire, is really a good actor or if he actually scares as the bad guy because we know that he was the mind behind “The Fly”, “Scanners” and “The Brood” and he is not that great as an actor!

Yeah, that would be Narcisse and Peloquin. It cracks me up how many people from Hellraiser are in Nightbreed. Barker is like Burton in that way, loves to work with the same people on multiple projects. You’re right Nuno, it was mentioned in many places that Nightbreed was supposed to spawn a sequel, or a tv series (which might have been better), we can hope.

Narcisse is the best, by far! You’ve gotta love a guy that’s committed in any sense of the word! (Plus I like his little thumb-knife things). I’ve got that movie on tape, and I’ve even got a saucy little book with all the characters in it, including nice pictures, and a brief back-story on each.

Also, I’ve even got a couple of comic books with the Nightbreed–it’s under “Clive Barker Presents” I think, if anyone else likes comics, and enjoys digging through the old bargin back issues–they aren’t worth much, but the drawings are pretty good; they actually look like the same characters from the movie. Plus, the comics did pick up where the movie left off.

I love Danny’s score to the movie–and I think we lucked out that a few pieces were included in Music for a Darkened Theatre Volume 1. I especially like “Meat for the Beast”–it’s rather snazzy. All the precussion and what-not with the chorus is really fantastic!

Movies that have the monsters as being not so bad always get my vote, in general–I mean, let’s face it, they’re much more fun than the “heroes”! And once more, low-budget horror is the best! (Tah-ha! He tried to eat that man)!

did anyone else watch it recently? cuz thanks to moulin rouge, i was convinced the choir was lalaing (is that a verb?) well, anyways, they were going la la to the tune of “diamonds are a diamonds are a diamonds are a..” and when our lead character got shot, the music was like it was trying to avoid an edward scissorhands melody, but first, what came first? the chicken or the nightbreed?

lexi: no, i’m not callin ES chicken.
