ParticipantGood pick, not Danny. Not that I thought Elfman would take the job even if asked (and I honestly thought Ratner may ask, since Lalo wasn’t gonna do it), but I held out the odd hope anyway. John Powell is a very fitting pick considering the movie subject, and I’m sure will do a good job. If he builds on Ottman’s fanfare and the emotion of the first X-Men score, with a twist of his own pop-bombastic mix, I’m sure it’ll be nice…. could even be my favorite of the three.

ParticipantIt was totally unexpected for me, but I’ve enjoyed Powell’s scores to “Rat Race,” “Shrek,” and surprisingly, “Evolution.” I’m not too sure about how I feel about him doing X-Men because there’s uncertainty over whether he will incorporate Ottman’s great themes, one of his techno-esque works, or the kind that I’m fond of, the really powerful, energetic, and thematic stuff. We’ll just have to wait and see. I wonder what brought him up as a contender, no less the actual selection for the film’s composer.

ParticipantI think he’s very fitting…. that’s probably why his name was mentioned. I think of his style, and I think X-Men. But whether or not he uses Ottman’s stuff isn’t the biggest concern to me, more that he’s able to make something really melodic as the fanfare. Ottman’s score was NOT complete to me. His Suite was brilliant…. and that’s it. It fell flat after that… but the fanfare and the accompanying theme musics were done well. It they had a cross between Michael Karmen’s X-Men score and Ottman’s fanfare with a Powell twist, I think they’ll have one of my favorite comic-movie scores since 2002.

ParticipantThere’s not going to be a 4, according to most reports. If there were, it would have to be Bryan Singer with John Ottman.

Check out the Beast (Kelsey Grammar).

ParticipantSo let’s see, we have David Hyde Pierce as the voice of Abe Sapien in Hellboy, and now Kelsey Grammer’s The Beast…what’s next, John Mahoney as the next Joker? Actually Kelsey Grammer looks pretty cool in Beast gear, very impressive I think.

Yeah, I really didn’t like the “Niles Frasier” voice of Abe Sapien in Hellboy, and I’ve always hated the voices for Beast in the cartoons, but Kelsey should be pretty cool. The Beast definitely looks great.

ParticipantNot that you can judge these things from the previews, but this upcoming movie looks a lot better than the last. This being a fairly old post, I assume that I wont catch too much flack for saying that the second X-Men movie sucked. I’m kind of looking forward to this one (assuming that they don’t write in any of the horrid teenybopper drama, and exploitation of young actors, which was so heavily incorporated into the last flick).
I am so glad that I was never a teenager.
