Guestwhat would you say is your favorite elfman villain theme? huh?
would you say it’s:
the clowns from hell (clown dream theme from Pee-Wee)
the joker’s waltz
march of the dead (which depicts the attack of evil Ash’s army and therefore kinsda counts as his theme)
the penguin’s theme
catwoman’s theme
Oogie Boogie’s song
the Martian March
the headless horseman’s theme
floop’s song
the green goblin’s theme
the Red Dragon’s themes (operatic & twisted lullaby)i kinda think that General Thade had a motiff or something in PoTA
if i forget one, please mention it .(i dont know if the Beetlejuice theme {the tango} fit’s in the villain section or with the Anti-heroes)

Guesti love floop’s song, but i wouldn’t call it a villian theme lest it was depicting a villian. i’m thinking the clown’s theme from pee-wee. those guys were way scarier than the killer clowns from outer space. of course, oogie boogie stands in a category all his own.. hmm..

GuestHeh! Oogie Boogie’s definately up there, but it stands way apart from all the other villain-y stuff. But overall I’d say the Beetlejuice theme because that was an amazing movie. Rawr.

GuestAs far as themes, I’d definitely have to pick the Martians. Floop wasn’t a bad guy, and Oogie Boogie’s “theme” was just a style of music and a really cool song. Beetlejuice wasn’t really a bad guy either. Neither was the horseman ( he was a slave, you see, a slave! And before that, he was just a hired professional!!!!)
The Joker’s waltz was too happy to be the best theme (but it was extremely cool, and the Joker is still my favorite villan of all time). Catwoman’s is probably my favorite theme out of the whole bunch, but neither she nor the Penguin’s themes were very villany, because they were depicted more like helpless victims (kind of, like). Same thing with the Dragon. Well, okay, the Dragon was a bad guy, but the themes were depicting more of his true, human self.
The clowns did not have their own theme, because the very same theme was used for the dinosaurs who ate Pee Wee’s bike in another dream. The Green Goblin’s theme isn’t catchy enough, and I’ve never heard March of the Dead, so since those are the only real villan themes, the Martians win nolo contendre!

GuestI’d have to go with The Penguin’s theme despite the “not so villany” sound to it. I loved the fact that Tim Burton created villains as “helpless victims” which gave Elfman an excuse to make a beautiful, sad, emotional theme, which he probably had alot of fun making variations with throuought the movie. In fact, it became more villany at the end with the zombie penguins, and as The Penguin became more furious.
And I’d have to disagree with the Goblin’s theme not being so catchy. I find myself humming that theme more often than I’d like. It’s odd and diminished but to me… priceless.December 9, 2002 at 6:05 am #43302Anonymous
GuestI like “The March of the Dead” because it’s hard to argue that an army of skeletons are “evil” (especially since it’s called “Evil Dead” for a reason)! Plus I like the flutes and what-not–and anything that reminds me of dancing skeletons (or marching or drumming or shooting) I get a kick out of!

Guestin my little sick, twisted, danny elfman-dressed-as-satan-singing cab-calloway-parodies infested maze for a brain. it’s a tie between the Joker’s Kickass waltz and the Penguin’s theme.
i like the first one because it is totally insane. it has this maniacal feel to it
but the penguin… oh the penguin… nadie puede con el pinguino, viejo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh, excuse me, i was thinking out loud. the penguin’s theme is just so beautiful, it depicts this extreme sadness but at the same time it also channels rage. just like the penguin and besides, Danny himself loves the character which is more than a good reason to be in the favorites category.Alonso Vences (who has devastated the souls of the living) Vences

GuestIn PLANET OF THE APES Thade indeed does have a theme. It’s subtle though, a three-note phrase preformed repeated times throughout the score on bassoon.
