Apparently, the show opens with an animated short scored by Elfman:

And it’s even more surprising, when you think about the fact that he does not like this type of ceremony…February 27, 2016 at 6:33 pm #58682Descent Into MysteryParticipantIt IS odd that Danny Elfman would work for the Academy Awards considering how often they’ve snubbed him, BUT the Oscars telecast gets a HUGE audience and it’s great exposure for Elfman.

February 29, 2016 at 4:42 pm #58689Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterThe piece sounded cool but seemed to be entirely electronic. When it got big at the Hollywood sign the voiceover buried the music. They cut to Elfman after Ennio’s win for Best Score and gave Elfman his credit for the opening.
February 29, 2016 at 8:07 pm #58690ThorParticipantYeah, the shot of Elfman (who was there with his daughter Mali) just after Morricone was announced as the winner, was priceless.

March 1, 2016 at 2:46 pm #58692Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterLOL. What a gentleman.
June 15, 2016 at 6:38 pm #58283ThorParticipantDoes anyone have an audio rip of this opening music that they could send me? That would be mightily appreciated.
June 15, 2016 at 8:07 pm #58284ddddeeeeParticipantHe must have wrote this in an hour?
June 16, 2016 at 2:58 pm #58292Ryan KeaveneyKeymasterI don’t think there is a decent audio rip — if I recall there’s voiceover, crowd noise, sound effects, etc throughout.
June 19, 2016 at 8:38 am #58295ThorParticipantDamn! ;(
