ThorParticipantI actually completed my master thesis ( more like a Ph.D in international terms) last year, and I had a whole chapter devoted to an analysis of the EDWARD SCISSORHANDS score. I recently translated it into English, in order to have it published somewhere, but I have not yet.
I could send you the article through e-mail, but if you’re going to quote it, you’d have to make it out as an excerpt of my master thesis.
Best,
TJ
ThorParticipantWell, Pink Floyd was a special case. It had to take the influence of pal Bob Geldof and the extremely good cause that was Live 8. And even then, it’s most probably a one-time event. The dynamic between Waters and Gilmour wasn’t exactly glowing on stage. But it still ranks as one of the greatest entertainment news in my life (I am a PF nut/completist, but when I became a fan, they had already disbanded).
But Pink Floyd continued to tour and release albums after Water’s departure in the early 80’s. When they did their Division Bell tour in 94, the guys were already in their 50’s. And judging by Elfman’s aversion towards becoming a rock’n’roll “dinosaur”, I think it’s EXTREMELY unlikely that he will return in that arena, particularly now that he has passed 50 himself.
But hey….nothing would make me happier. Just being a realist here.
ThorParticipantInterestingly, however, Elfman’s “The Letter” from A CIVIL ACTION sounds suspiciously like James Horner’s “End Credits” from APOLLO 13. I have no doubt it’s just a coincidence, but still….
ThorParticipantI’m sure this composition is way too personal to ever be recorded.
ThorParticipantI don’t know if the poster of this message is still around, but I just wanted to say thank you for this information. I immediately purchased the album from Indianola Records (quite cheap too!), and I must say it’s a bloody good one! Much better than expected. These are really professional performances, and I paricularly liked the electropop versions of “Dead Man’s Party” and “Weird Science”. Plus the laidback, female vocal version of “Not My Slave”. Has anyone else picked this up yet? You’re not a proper Oingo Boingo fan without it (how’s that for free advertising!).

ThorParticipantTo be honest, I’d MUCH rather hear a Lalo Schifrin superhero score than yet another one by Elfman.
ThorParticipantYou know, this is actually somewhat on-topic, since Danny Elfman scored Brett Ratner’s remake of MANHUNTER, called RED DRAGON.
Anyways, I can’t help you with your request, sorry to say.
ThorParticipantAs a Norwegian, I have to point out some typos here. First of all, the composer’s name is Edvard Grieg, not Edward. The piece in particular is indeed called “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (or “Dovregubbens Hall”, which is the original title). And the suite in which is appears is called “Peer Gynt” suite, not “Pier Gynt”. This is of course based on the famous Henrik Ibsen play by the same name.
