GuestHey Angelica, I was obssessed with Danny when I was 13 too. That was 21 years ago! Just beware. His music can become a life long addiction.

GuestI’ve been obsessed with Elfman since I was 11, and that was over 10 years ago. As for your “friends” who tease you, what do they know? They listen to music that is devoid of any melody, artistry or substance. If anybody has something to laugh about it’s you for having the capacity to appreciate wonderful music such as Elfman’s while others just swallow whatever crap they’re fed.

GuestEleven was the age for me to get hooked, too. Only that was fifteen years ago, here. I’ve never been one to care the slightest for what others say when it comes to what one can and cannot like. Figure I let other people like what they want, and in turn, I expect them to do the same for me. And if they don’t–well, I’m not listening, anyways.

GuestI discovered Elfman at age 7, and I’ve always maintained that if other people don’t get it, that’s their problem, not mine. They’re the ones that have the problem – I know for a fact that I dig one of the most idiosyncratic 20th century composers around. If your friends can’t handle your good taste, Angelica, that’s their problem, not yours.
And for the record, I like a bit of rap and hip-hop, just not much, that’s all. I have no use for 99% of that music because 99% of MCs are idiots. Every now and then you get someone like K-os or the Roots or Public Enemy that actually has something to say and/or makes it into art and, in doing so, makes it all okay, but most rap/hip-hop is pathetic. “I gots the most money, and I gots the most bitches, so I win, yo!”
Whatever.

GuestAddendum: I just want to say that it stinks that Ryan’s software censors the word b i t c h e s. We’re all (or, I guess, most of us are) adults here, and these really aren’t bad words we’re spouting – they’re just part of living in the 21st century.

GuestAngelica, I’m turning 15 on Saturday the 28th (Happy Birthday me!) I got into Danny’s music after seeing Spider-Man (hence my nickname). So let’s see, that means that I was 13 too when I got into the music. Now all my friends think I’m a weirdo, but I just think the same about them when I listen to the crap on the radio. Go Danny!

f-uck… hmmmmmmmm.
Anyway, I think I got into Danny when I was about 8ish, but I was never really a serious collector or anything until I was 15. Now, I’m obsessed! I think Danny’s very hard to shake once you’ve got him in your system… it’s kinda problematic when your trying to write original music, too!>¦:o)

GuestIf she’s 13 and listening to Danny, she’s got to be mature, at least in a sense that she can take swears. Although most of us are immature in a Tim Burtony way, maturity is required to appreciate Danny’s work rather than the stuff on the radio.

GuestIf you don’t find the Best of Boingo, the Farewell Concert CD is a good replacement for the “one-disc set” of Boingo. (Though it’s two, really)

Really? I would have never made that kind of connection that one would have to be or is mature to appreciate Elfman’s work. At the moment, I am 15, but I am thouroughly obsessed. As another member remarked earlier, ‘It’s hard to get him out of your system’. *chuckles* I can certainly agree with that. But I never thought about if maturity had to do with anything…interesting note. *smiles*

GuestIt’s hard to believe, yet it is true. Ever notice the people who are obsessed wikth the stuff on the radio? There isn’t much to them. They are happy with what is given to them and don’t think twice about what they are listening to. When listening to an Elfman score, I often repeat a specific selection just to figure out that certain part and admire its beauty. Maturity required.
