GuestSo, I was sitting in the bath one day and it came to me…why 2005 was destined for greatness. Well, first off it’s going to be a great year for movies. Just to get some of the main “off-topic” films out of the way: “War of the Worlds”, “King Kong”, “Episode 3” (it’ll suck, but I’m seeing it), “Harry Potter”, “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, to name a few.
But of course, as we all know, we are going to get 2 of the greatest Burton/Elfman films: “Charlie” and “Corpse Bride”.
Not only that but, 2005 will mark the 20th Anniversary of Elfman and Burton’s first collaboration in the film world.
Seems just like yesterday I was 9 years old and sitting in the theatre watching “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” for the first time. (That’s right mathletes, I’m old–ish!)
Just some random thoughts to pass the time. Now, to get back to work.

Guest>>”Episode 3″ (it’ll suck, but I’m seeing it)<< “Uh, yeah, the movies suck, but I’m just counting the days for latest one. Which, I guess, completely deflates my argument of disliking the films.” Yes, “worst Star Wars, ever. I will only be seeing it five more times… today.” Bloody hypocrites…

GuestThe new Star Wars movies are good. I wasn’t hyped, so I saw them with a normal point of view.

GuestThat should have read:
“…but I’m just counting the days for the latest one.”
Also: The post came off a little more condescending and angry than I intended.

GuestEpisode III is gonna be good, I’m sure. It’ll be the darkest of the series (and I mean really dark, I saw pictures of why Anakin has to wear the Vader suit). Not really a kid’s movie at all. They’ll probably have to rate it PG-13. Every other STar Wars movie was just PG.
It’s also more dramatic. Ian McDiarmid’s character comes full circle in this one(Palpatine finally uses a lightsaber).
BTW, incidentally I’m finally glad they chose that Hayden guy to play anakin. He’s not my favorite actor (I don’t usually like teen actors) but he suprised me (in what I saw online of Episode III, I mean). They originally wanted Leo Dicaprio to play the role. I’d boycott the whole series if that was the case.

GuestA few big titles I’m looking forward to: Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm (which might actually be out late this year) and Brian DePalma’s adaptation of the James Ellroy novel The Black Dahlia.
The top of my list is Steven Spielberg’s The War of the Worlds. This could be another Jurassic Park for Spielberg if he and screenwriter David Koepp do it right, i.e. setting it in turn-of-the-century England like the novel, instead of trying to remake the 50s movie and modernizing it in a rehash of Independence Day.
I’m not to thrilled that John Williams is doing the score. Williams is a good composer at times, but I’m not sure that this is a good project for him. The War of the Worlds has always been one of my Elfman dream projects, but that’s not going to happen.
Who knows, maybe Williams’ score will be great. And maybe Elfman will sign on to score The Black Dahlia, I guess it’s possible.

Guest“NOT looking forward to:
King Kong (damn you, Peter Jackson!!!!!!!!!!)”Yes, but maybe the release of Jackson’s film will finally make Universal remember that the original is not out on DVD yet! (which is why they’ve waited this long I guess?)

GuestWarner Bros. owns the video / DVD rights to the original KING KONG.

GuestThe 1933 King Kong is being restored for DVD, with a tentative release date of October 2005, in anticipation of the release of Jackson’s remake. This has been confirmed by an employee at Warner, who says it is in the works and should be out in fourteen months.
